The client typically has a very pleasant fun personality and loves chatting. On occasion he may experience distress and will require extra attention to ensure he is not experiencing pain or discomfort. The position is for 3 shifts per week where you will be on-site from 8:00am to 8:00 am per shift. You will be given at minimum 8 hours to sleep, meal breaks and additional time while the client naps and rests. The home is in the Barrington/Palatine area, and you are responsible for your own transportation. We do maintain a no-smoking policy. The ideal candidate will be energetic, detail-oriented, kind and committed to fostering a safe, comfortable living space while managing medical needs and daily routines. Duties Provide comprehensive assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding and toileting. Provide companionship and conversation with client. Ability to help client sit upright in electric hospital bed. Ability to turn and reposition client at least every 2-3 hours (excludes overnight) to prevent pressure ulcers. Monitor patient health through regular observation of vital signs and overall condition, promptly reporting any concerns Medication reminders Meal preparation, cooking nutritious meals tailored to dietary needs, and light cleaning. Kitchen and surrounding areas are to be cleaned immediately after meals. This includes cooktop, microwave, countertop and floor. Shared spaces are to be kept clean, vacuumed or swept daily. You will be required to maintain your own bed (changing sheets, etc.). Caregiver bathroom is shared with one other caregiver and cleaning responsibilities for this bathroom will be divided equally. Experience Prior experience with live-in care highly preferred but will consider candidate with nursing home or home health environments Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and patient care procedures including medication administration and vital signs monitoring Experience working with individuals with dementia, or in hospice settings is advantageous Long-term care experience that highlights your ability to provide consistent, compassionate support over extended periods Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times Proven ability to work independently in a live-in employment setting while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
