About God's Shelter of Love God's Shelter of Love is a Christian non profit ministry located in Decatur, IL. We operate a 16-bed overnight shelter and provide a safe, welcoming environment rooted in dignity, compassion, and respect. Our mission is to provide help and hope to women and children in crisis . We believe safety, consistency, and compassionate boundaries are essential to creating a space where healing and stability can begin. Position Summary The Overnight Shelter Attendant is responsible for maintaining a safe, calm, and supportive environment during overnight hours. This role requires strong judgment, emotional maturity, and the ability to respond appropriately to a range of situations, including conflict, crisis, and medical or behavioral concerns. While attendants are permitted to sleep during the shift, they must remain alert, available, and able to wake and respond promptly to resident needs or emergencies at any time throughout the night. This is a solo position, and the attendant must be comfortable working independently. Key Responsibilities Complete resident intake and maintain accurate documentation Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly shelter environment at all times Be available and responsive to residents throughout the night Utilize de-escalation techniques to address conflict, erratic behavior, or distress Respond appropriately to emergencies, following established protocols Launder guest clothing and linens as needed Perform light cleaning and facility upkeep during the shift Monitor entrances, exits, and common areas Enforce shelter rules and boundaries with consistency and compassion Uphold all policies, procedures, and the organization's code of conduct Reflect and support the mission and values of God's Shelter of Love in all interactions Required Qualifications Experience in a people-facing role where safety, boundaries, or crisis response were required (examples include residential care, behavioral health, healthcare, group homes, corrections, crisis services, childcare, or similar environments) Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, or crisis Demonstrated ability to remain calm, alert, and respectful in high-stress or emotionally charged situations Strong judgment and ability to work independently during overnight hours Ability to wake, assess situations, and respond appropriately during overnight shift Ability to meet standard physical requirements, including standing, walking, light lifting, cleaning, and laundry tasks. Willingness to uphold the mission, values, and code of conduct of a faith-based organization Background check required Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a shelter or residential setting Training in de-escalation, trauma-informed care, or crisis response CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
