Caregiver/ Resident Care Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY
The Caregiver/Resident Care Specialist is responsible for resident care and other duties as assigned. Duties may include assistance with activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living, personal services, housekeeping, social/recreational activities, assistance with self-administration of medication, meal service support and other resident and community needs in accordance with the mission, established policies and procedures and guidelines of Arcadia Senior Living.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Adheres to and conveys philosophy of supporting dignity, privacy, independence, choice, individuality, and a home-like environment for residents. Receives and gives report from the previous shift. Reviews assignments with Director of Resident Care and Wellness/Lead Resident Care Specialist Reads the staff communication log and is familiar with resident records as required Assists with instrumental activities of daily living, ADL's, environmental orientation, assistance with self-administration of medication and other care while encouraging self-care and independence. Assists with setting up, serving meals, and cleaning up afterwards as assigned. Provides services as indicated on resident service plans. Assists with laundry service as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of and follows infection control procedures. Maintains clean and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors, including housekeeping services for residents as assigned. Observes problems, concerns, issues observed with resident units, the building and the grounds and communicates them appropriately. Observes changes in resident status, needs, or preferences, and communicates them appropriately. Observes all work, safety, and administrative rules. Adheres to all established policies and procedures. Records resident information as required. Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to procedures for fire, life safety, disaster, security, work, safety, and other emergency procedures. Assists with individual resident and group social recreational activities as assigned. Assist residents with placing phone calls, scheduling appointments, getting on and off the van. Accompanies residents on the van to doctor's appointments and or activities as requested by resident and or instructed by Director of Resident Care and Wellness/Lead Resident Care Specialist. Notifies Director of Resident Care and Wellness/Lead Resident Care Specialist and/or designee of resident status change as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of and follows infection control procedures Ability to work safely and to recognize potentially dangerous situations.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS
Ability to be friendly, positive, professional, and cheerful; interact easily with residents, resident families, visitors, and co-workers. Ability to work in stressful situations, remaining calm and demonstrating good judgment and self-control in emergency and difficult situations. Willingness to adhere to assisted living principles in providing services. Organizes and utilizes time appropriately toward accomplishing assigned tasks and has ability to work independently with little supervision. Ability for strong organizational skills and strong detail orientation. Able to communicate in both oral and written word of English Language. Ability to use tact and diplomacy to resolve conflict. Maintains acceptable attendance record/follows work schedule. Displays cleanliness, good grooming and follows dress code requirements consistently. Ability and willingness to follow all policies and procedures. Ability and willingness to work longer than 8 hours on a shift; to work holidays or overtime, if necessary. Ability to attend orientation and in-service training as required by the position. Keeps all information confidential.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regularly required to listen and speak with individuals and groups.
- Lifting and moving furniture and equipment with assistance.
- Continuous Standing, using hands, reaching, climbing, and balancing.
- Must have high level of mobility/flexibility in space provided.
- Ability to do occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), 30 lbs. regularly.
- Able to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work safely and to recognize potentially dangerous situations.
