Job Description
Overview We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Dementia Caregiver/Companion to provide one to one dedicated support for an elderly woman with advanced dementia in a memory care facility. This vital role involves delivering personalized, respectful care that enhances quality of life and promotes dignity. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in senior care, memory care, and working with individuals with complex cognitive needs- dementia and Alzheimers. The ideal candidate MUST have had hands on experience with advanced late stages of dementia and understands behavior such as agitation, anxiety, resistance to care, wandering, confusion and occasional aggression. Duties Provide companionship and emotional reassurance. Assisting with redirection and de-escalation during periods of agitation Provide hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, ensuring comfort and safety at all times Monitor and observe patient closely within the memory care facility, any changes in behavior, mood, or physical condition to inform family and/or facility staff Support resident during feeding, and respecting individual preferences Maintain a calm, patient, clean and safe environment through occasional assistance with cleaning resident up and adherence to infection control protocols Skills Proven experience in dementia care, memory care, assisted living, or long-term care environments (REQUIRED) Knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and ability to remain calm during challenging situations Excellent communication skills for engaging with residents, families, and healthcare professionals Ideal Candidate Patient, kind, compassionate with experience in redirecting techniques Comfortable assisting with toileting/personal care Able to work independently in a memory care facility Understands that behaviors are symptoms of the disease- not intentional actions Have reliable transportation and dependable attendance CNA, Health Aide, Nursing Assistant Must pass background check and provide proven references Willing to work 1-3 times a week, including every other weekend (ex. Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday)
