DV Shelter Advocate Family Counseling and Shelter Services of Monroe County - 2.0 Monroe, MI Job Details Part-time $14 an hour 13 hours ago Qualifications Active listening Intake Working with children Direct support Client advocacy in social work Full Job Description We are a small non-profit agency looking to hire part-time Shelter Advocates. This position will work approximately 24 hours per week at Sunrise House, our Domestic Violence Shelter.
Shelter Advocate Job Description:
Provide direct support to survivors of domestic violence through intake, crisis intervention, safety planning, referrals, and advocacy. Remain available and provide direct assistance to clients by ensuring they have access to hygiene care, cleaning supplies, child care items, linens, etc. Respond to crisis hotline calls, utilizing de-escalation techniques, active listening skills, and referral-based crisis intervention services. Maintain strict confidentiality and adherence to program policies and ethical standards. Coordinate with community resources to connect clients with housing, childcare, healthcare, legal services, and more. Ensure safety and security of the shelter and residents at all times. Receive and process donations. Working Conditions This position involves direct service work in a residential shelter environment. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with, and prepared for, the following workplace conditions: Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift , and move throughout a shift. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs (e.g. supplies, donations, pack and plays, furniture or assisting clients). Exposure to noise , including alarms, crying children, raised voices, etc. Working in high-stress, trauma-informed settings with individuals and families in crisis. Potential exposure to pests common to communal living environments . Possible mandatory shift extensions during emergencies or staffing shortages . This description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the shelter. Appropriate training, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety protocols are provided. All new hires are subject to a 90-day probationary period, during which job performance, attendance, and overall suitability for the role will be evaluated. Successful completion of this probationary period is required for continued employment. •
Incentive Pay:
Shifts picked up with less than 24 hours of notice are at an $18 hourly rate. Experience in social services and/or domestic violence a plus, but not required.
