Direct Support Staff

Role Overview Direct Support Staff (DSS) play a vital role in supporting residents with daily living, emotional wellbeing, and community engagement. This role requires compassion, consistency, and clear communication. Staff are trained to respond respectfully to challenging behaviors and uphold each resident's rights and preferences. Key Responsibilities Provide respectful, trauma-informed support with daily living activities (ADLs) Assist with medication administration and health monitoring per individual plans Document services, incidents, and progress notes accurately and confidentially Support residents in community outings, appointments, and social activities Respond to verbal aggression or conflict using non-confrontational redirection techniques Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment Uphold privacy, dignity, and ADA-conscious practices at all times Communicate clearly with team members, supervisors, and Designated Coordinator Qualifications Experience in disability services, mental health, or caregiving preferred Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations Strong communication and documentation skills Must pass DHS background check and meet training requirements per MN 245D Drivers license preferred
