Direct Care Staff The Poverello Center is seeking fun, creative, and empowering individuals to support our mission of offering food, shelter, help and hope to all who ask in the Missoula community. Specifically, we are seeking an independent worker who may be interested in providing staff and clerical support for the provision of services to Poverello Center clients or at other locations including Blue Heron. Who We Are For over 45 years, the Poverello Center has provided a necessary safety net for our community members living in hunger and houselessness. An award winning non-profit organization, the Poverello Center provides education, advocacy, and a multitude of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of people struggling with poverty in Missoula. We are dedicated to treating people with dignity and respect, regardless of their housing status and envision a collaborative and supportive community in which everyone has a safe place to call home. We are committed to promoting and providing a range of services to improve the health and security of people experiencing houselessness in the Missoula community. Why We Need You The ideal candidate has a passion and talent for helping others, is an independent worker who communicates clearly, and compassionately, and has the ability to connect and empathize with individuals who are experiencing the effects of poverty, mental health, and/or substance use disorders. They remain calm in high stress situations and encounters. They are trustworthy, dependable, relatable and friendly. What You'll Do The Direct Care Staff reports to the Shelter Program Manager, they are responsible for the following: Complete administrative tasks: answering phones, checking email, distributing mail and messages, scanning and filing documents, and other duties as assigned. Foster a sense of belonging by treating all people who access the Poverello Center with dignity and respect; welcome our unhoused neighbors with warmth and kindness. Respond appropriately to needs and crisis situations, such as mediating basic interpersonal problems between residents and summoning emergency personnel, as needed. Work independently and manage time appropriately during slower moments. Maintain accurate records, notes, and reports using cloud-based software. Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff regarding resident and building concerns. Initiate and maintain cleanliness in shared building spaces, support residents in completing cleaning tasks. Create boundaries and uphold policies that facilitate a safe environment.
