My son has autism spectrum disorder and is very independent. He lives alone but does not drive. We are looking for a male to take him on overnight weekend trips 3-4 times a year and day trips one Saturday per month. We also need this person to work with him 2-3 hours in the afternoon once Monday through Thursday arriving by 4-4:30 at the latest. The ideal candidate is someone with an education, psychology, and or developmental/intellectual background who has experience with individuals with special needs. He loves to go out of town for day trips if the weather is good. Those trips could last from 10 am -2 or 5 pm depending on plans. Saturday shifts could be as short as 3 hours if he stays in town on Saturdays. We are also looking for someone possibly able to work extra hours during the week as occasional back-up staff if needed. The companion we want should enjoy hiking, art, music, and history. We need someone to take him to the grocery store/errands, as well as help around the house, work on Medicaid goals, promote socialization, support him in his art business, and having fun. The selected applicant must be happy, mature, and showing my son he is respected by being on time., demonstrating attention to details, helping my son plan trips and other activities, and having dependable transportation. My son also has a cat so applicant must be comfortable around cats. We are looking for a 1-year commitment to minimize turnover.
Required:
High School diploma or GED, but training in education, psychology, social work, art, or a related field is preferred. Responsibilities Provide companionship to reduce feelings of loneliness and promote engagement. Monitor and observe my son for any changes in health status or behavior. Assist him in preparing nutritious meals if he wants help. Verify that he has taken his medication. Assist with light housekeeping tasks including cleaning and organizing living spaces Support my son during outings or community activities to foster social interaction Follow care plans Maintain accurate documentation of care provided and any notable observations Assist with transporting paintings and providing support at exhibits and pop-up markets, including sales. (You will be paid the 2026 federal mileage rate of 72.5 cents per mile to transport my son for all activities.) Requirements Raleigh address, preferably within 15 min. of Forest Lawn Ct., Raleigh, NC 27612 since shifts are short. Valid NC driver's license, a safe driving record, and dependable transportation 3 professional references and pass criminal background check Prior experience in working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred Certification in CPR/First Aid is desirable, but you can be paid to be trained. Ability to work independently while following detailed care plans and protocols Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and safety awareness Compassionate attitude with excellent communication skills and patience Ability to perform light household tasks. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining client confidentiality Valid driver's license and vehicle is required for transportation responsibilities Competency in basic computer skills We value professionalism, empathy, and a commitment to quality care in every team member. A $300 bonus will be paid after 3 months of applicant successfully completing data and time entries and having a positive relationship with my son.
