Job Description

This position is responsible for providing direct support, positive direction, and assistance to individuals supported in accordance with program policies and procedures and personal outcome measures. A DSP is responsible to all individuals supported, with other activities and functions flowing from this. DSP's support individuals' emotional, physical, and personal well-being and encourage growth while being attentive to reducing risk of harm. DSP's assist individuals with leading self-directed lives and develop a spirit of partnership with individuals supported, other professionals, and the community. DSP's safeguard and respect confidentiality, privacy, and promote and practice justice and equity for individuals supported and the community. DSP's affirm human and civil rights and individual's responsibilities, respect human dignity and the uniqueness and value of individuals supported, and help others understand their value. DSP's assist individuals with developing and maintaining relationships, directing the course of their own lives, and advocate with individuals for justice, inclusion, and full community participation. DSP's primary responsibility is to ensure that active treatment is consistently provided to the individuals in accordance with the Overall Service Plans. This position also involves completing household duties to maintain a safe and clean environment. Responsibilities Assist individuals with daily living activities, including meal preparation, personal care, and household tasks Implement individualized support plans based on each person's unique needs and goals Support individuals in accessing community resources and participating in social activities Document progress and communicate regularly with the individual, their support team, and supervisor Provide guidance and encouragement to help individuals achieve their personal goals and increase independence High school graduate or equivalent. Additional experience with individuals with
DD & IID
preferred or as required by regulations. Must be 18 years of age or older. Valid driver's license and good driving record as defined by Enable, Inc.'s policy. Some positions may require access to vehicle in sound operating condition and proof of current auto insurance. Achieve Certification through MSU according to State and Enable, Inc.'s policies. Ability and willingness to successfully complete and apply all training provided. Additional certifications may be required by regulations. Clear background checks as defined by regulations and policies. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Ability to do daily standing, bending, and lifting. Must be able to stand for 8 hours at a time. Interest in assisting individuals to achieve personal outcomes and person-centered support. Must possess good verbal, reading, and written communication in English; basic math skills; and basic computer skills. Must have knowledge and skills necessary to perform ordinary household functions, cooking, cleaning, etc. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others, flexibility with respect to hrs. of work and changing conditions, be of good moral character, have an interest in the welfare of the individuals supported, have training and/or interest in the field of developmental disabilities, and have a willingness/ability to communicate with and relate to individuals supported, parents, guardians, fellow-staff, representatives of community agencies, and company management.
