Job Description

Description:
The North Ward Center is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work with individuals with autism in our first community based residential program located in the North Ward of Newark. The desirable candidate must have a high school diploma/ GED or higher. Experience working with people with disabilities is not required, but recommended. Most important attributes include reliability, patience, and the desire to work with people with special needs. Candidates will be caregivers, responsible for helping residents maintain their personal health and hygiene in their place of residence. A valid driver's license is required and the candidate must be willing to submit to a background check, drug test, and pre-employment physical.
Responsibilities include:
Assist with activities of daily living skills Handling general housekeeping tasks and meal preparation. Encouraging individuals to participate in community activities. Respond appropriately to emergency situations. Assist individuals in making progress on their outcome and goals for the specified service as defined in their Individual Support Plan. Take advantage of training opportunities to improve ability to support and promote individuals served. Assist with medical appointments. Transport individuals to related activities that are within the community. Learn and follow agency policies/procedures and government regulations for the services provided.
