Caregiver and Household Helper for

My Mom Location:

South Dayton / Springboro, OH (on-site)

Pay:

$25 to $30/hour starting, based on experience

Schedule:

Mix of scheduled hours and PRN, flexible, including some weekends Hi, I'm James. I'm hiring on behalf of my mom, Barb. She lives alone near Springboro and is heading into surgery soon. I'm based in Colorado, so I'm getting this search started now to have the right person ready when she's back home. Barb is in her late 70s, widowed about a year and a half ago. She's quiet, kind, faithful, and easy to be around. She isn't paralyzed and doesn't need transfers, but she'll be weak after surgery and will need real help with daily life for a stretch. The exact start date is still moving, so I'd like the right person lined up and ready. She also has cats. She loves them. She just doesn't need them landing on her head while she's trying to sleep. The Role Helping her in and out of bed and around the house while she's recovering Personal care as needed Meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking food that supports her health Light cleaning, laundry, and keeping the house in order Cat care: feeding, litter, basic attention Pharmacy runs and medication reminders Errands and appointments Being a steady, kind presence in the house Some hours will be regular, some PRN, and the shape will shift with her recovery. The more flexible your availability, the more hours I can offer. What I Need Calm and steady. Warmth without a lot of noise. Genuinely kind. Someone who actually likes older people. Reliable. If you commit to a shift, you're there. A real communicator. Going quiet is the fastest way for this to fall apart. Self-directed. Notice what needs doing and handle it. A good cook, or at least someone who enjoys preparing simple, healthy meals. Comfortable with cats. English-speaking, valid driver's license, reliable transportation. Some caregiving or healthcare experience, ideally with older adults. Who This Isn't For People who want shift work where you show up, follow a checklist, and leave. High-energy personalities. Mom is gentle and quiet, and the right caregiver will be too. Anyone with very limited availability. People applying to everything they see right now.
