Family Promise of Northwestern Ohio helps families experiencing homelessness and housing instability achieve sustainable independence through compassionate hospitality, comprehensive support services, and community partnerships. Position Summary:
Family Promise of Northwestern Ohio is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and mission-driven Family Support Advocate to join our team. This part-time evening position provides encouragement, mentorship, and practical support to families experiencing homelessness while helping maintain a safe, welcoming shelter environment. Primary Responsibilities:
Welcome and support families, volunteers, churches, and community partners. Build positive relationships that encourage families as they work toward housing stability and self-sufficiency. Assist with family programming, life skills classes, and daily shelter activities. Prepare rooms for incoming families and maintain a clean, organized, and hospitable environment. Enforce program guidelines with consistency, compassion, and respect. Maintain daily communication logs, census reports, and other required documentation. Assist with meal coordination, grocery inventory, donations, and administrative tasks. Support case management by helping families access housing, employment, transportation, and community resources. Transport families when needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. Experience in human services, customer service, nonprofit work, or working with families is preferred. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to pass required background checks. Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrates compassion, professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires standing, walking, climbing stairs, occasional lifting up to 30 pounds, driving, and basic computer work.
