The Role The Personal Care Aide plays a key role in executing ASD's mission of strengthening communities through affordable, service-enriched housing for individuals and families impacted by
HIV/AIDS.
Reporting to the Senior Personal Care Aide, this position provides hands-on personal care and general housekeeping support to ASD residents, helping them maintain health, dignity, and a safe living environment. What You'll Do The Personal Care Aide provides direct care and housekeeping support to residents, maintains accurate observation records, and contributes to a clean, safe, and well-stocked living environment across all ASD properties. Personal Care Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, feeding, and toilet assistance Prepare meals according to specified diets and reinforce dietary guidelines Support residents with prescribed exercises and assist with oral medication as directed Housekeeping & Environmental Safety Perform light housekeeping to maintain residents' rooms and common areas, including laundry and general cleaning Remove trash from common areas and individual rooms Maintain and clean common areas, hallways, and reception areas Inspect and clean food preparation and storage areas; ensure all foods are properly wrapped, refrigerated, and disposed of appropriately Vacuum and mop all common areas and hallways Clean, sort, and store articles of clothing maintained by the agency Clean and arrange storage areas for personal hygiene and household supplies Maintain and stock common living areas with needed supplies such as coffee, tea, sugar, and paper products Documentation & Reporting Maintain a daily log of observation notes on each resident File observation notes in each resident's client record Identify and report changes in a resident's health condition; document unusual behaviors or activities on the premises Team & Professional Development Attend weekly PCA meetings, in-service sessions, and other training seminars relevant to the position Participate in all Quality Management activities Qualifications Required Must work physically on-site Familiarity with emergency procedures and ability to work both independently and as part of a team Ability to access all ASD properties, including those not equipped with handicapped-accessible features Ability to negotiate stairways and access emergency alarm equipment In the event of a fire or other emergency, must be able to assist with the evacuation of medically compromised residents Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds Ability to climb multiple staircases without assistance Sensitivity to culturally, racially, and sexually diverse client, staff, and volunteer populations Valid driver's license required Preferred Graduation from a Texas Department of State Health Services-approved home care training program, or at least one year of experience providing direct patient care Prior experience working with medically compromised or HIV/AIDS-affected populations Equal Employment Opportunity Statement ASD is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
