Personal Care Attendant (Non-Medical) (Bilingual Preferred) El Paso, TX 79901 From $13 an hour - Part-time, Full-time From $13 an hour -
Part-time, Full-time Job Summary:
Primary responsibility is providing personal assistance and/or health-related services to clients in their place of residence; provide a safe and clean environment; work cooperatively with the client and family; and report observations and problems to the Supervisor.
Reports to:
Office Supervisor Job Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Education:
Have proof of competency through education and/or experience or demonstrate competency to perform tasks as assigned.
Skills:
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions in English and be competent to perform tasks assigned by Supervisor. Demonstrates interest in the welfare of those who are elderly and/or disabled. Must successfully complete a Competency Evaluation Skills Checklist and pass a written Skills Test as required if performing G-Tube feedings. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Transportation:
Reliable transportation and current auto insurance. Current driver's license.
Environmental and Working Conditions:
Works in clients' residences in various conditions; possible exposure to blood, body fluids and infectious diseases; must have the ability to work a flexible schedule and travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather.
Physical and Mental Effort:
Prolonged standing and walking required. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move patients/clients. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines, to identify patient/client needs, to make quick decisions and to meet patient/client and family psychosocial needs. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Must have the ability to use durable medical equipment in the home.
Essential Functions:
Promotes the philosophy, mission and administrative policies of the Agency by presenting a positive image. Promotes positive, supportive, and respectful communication to the client and family and Agency personnel. Provides an environment that promotes respect for the client's privacy and property. Provides personal assistance or health-related tasks to client according to the Individualized Service Plan. Assists with transfers, walking, and ensures a safe environment. Documents care rendered to clients to ensure continuity of care and ensures documentation is completed accurately and timely. Appropriately reports changes to ensure continuity of care. Practices accepted infection control principles. Provides a clean, safe and comfortable environment. Utilizes skills necessary to perform services according to the Agency's policy. Contributes to the management and efficient operation of the Agency and demonstrate effective time management skills. Demonstrates commitment, professional growth, and competency by attending required in-services. Promotes the Agency's philosophy and administrative policies to ensure quality of care. Performs other duties as assigned. Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) cannot be guaranteed part- or full- time status and will have variable hours depending on the client(s) they are assigned to, any changes to plan(s) of care, and/or the decision of the client(s). Due to the fluctuation in hours, all PCAs are considered Variable Hours employees. Hours worked will be measured for a 12-month period after beginning employment and the average will determine their status for benefits purposes for the following 12 months. Please inquire about hours and benefits for more details. This position is Safety Sensitive. PCAs are responsible for the direct care of clients. Safety Sensitive positions are those in which performance by a person under the influence of drugs (whether prescribed or not) or alcohol would constitute an immediate or direct threat of injury or death to that person or another. Safety Sensitive positions are subject to reasonable suspicion alcohol/drug screenings for workers who appear to be impaired or may otherwise be in violation of the drug and alcohol policy.
