  • Part-time Ability Connection is non-profit organization that provides a multitude of services to people living with disabilities, including residential group homes.
We are seeking Residential Aides to join our growing team! We have several openings in Dallas and the surrounding areas for Residential Aides, with multiple shifts options available. The entry level of this position starts at $15.00/hour and follows a Career Ladder so that once goals and recommended trainings are completed, there is opportunity for promotion to the next level. Starting hourly rate for this role may be increased based on experience and existing certifications. Duties depend on the individual member's needs and capabilities and generally include assistance with activities of daily living and socialization. Aid to individuals is provided in conformance with the ISP, Behavior Plan, and other team-established and individual-expressed needs and goals for that member.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
All Residential Aides are expected to professionally conduct themselves, accept supervision and directions from their manager and other superiors, and show up for work on time. Additional expectations are set out in greater detail in the Employee Handbook. Job Duties Assist individuals with activities of daily living. Certain individuals require total care and the performance of activities of daily living by staff on their behalf (hygiene, ambulation, preparation of meals). Transport individuals as needed, including to local day program(s) on a timely basis. Carry out and chart all activities as set out in the Individual Support Plan, Behavior Management Plan and as otherwise needed for general skill Assist individuals with appearance and grooming, including appropriate clothing selection and general hygiene Assist individuals in maintaining their homes, including the provision of oversight, instructions, and encouragement with household chores per an individual's needs and abilities Prepare the home for the next shift (tidying up, completing paperwork) Assist in medication distribution following medication distribution guidelines or dispense medication to an individual as trained and according to the individual's medication administration Complete household chores on behalf of or in cooperation with individuals (e.g., individual's laundry, cleaning individual's bathroom, bedroom, and other home areas). Follow proper sanitation procedures (e.g., disposal of diapers, taking out trash, ensuring that food and/or human waste are appropriately cleaned up) Report and document all unusual occurrences, including but not limited to choking, falling, vomiting, seizures, and new or different individual behaviors Accurately and timely complete all required documentation before the end of the shift. Perform related and other duties as assigned. Additional Job Duties for Certain Shifts Evening Direct Support Professional Assist individuals in the preparation of the evening meal (this includes cooking and setting the table). For some individuals, total preparation and provision of meals to the individuals is necessary. Assist individuals in cleaning the dishes, kitchen, and dining area after the meal. For some individuals, these services must be performed on their behalf. Assist individuals in preparing lunches for the following day as needed. Assist individuals with bed preparation, including general hygiene activities like baths and/or showers when appropriate. Night Direct Support Professional Record any needed food or cleaning supplies in the communication to the morning shift Complete any filing or updating of paperwork as needed Complete cleaning and organizational tasks that require a Residential Aide's undivided attention (e.g., cleaning out the refrigerator, organizing cabinets or closets, cleaning baseboards ). Assist individuals in getting up, making bed, and tidying room in preparation for the new day. Assist individuals in preparing breakfast and skills training in cooking, eating, and cleaning up after the meal.
Position Physical Requirements:
Position requires walking, sitting, standing, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds unassisted and 350 pounds with assistance; squat, bend, reach, and stretch. Education and Experience At least 18 years of age High School Diploma or equivalency CPR Certification (training provided once hired) Valid Texas drivers license Clean criminal history and OIG record Successful completion of Training and Orientation program
Competency/Skill Requirements:
Ability to read and write sufficiently to complete required documentation Ability to make reasoned, appropriate decisions in emergency and non-emergency situations Good communication and organizational skills Ability to use assistive equipment, including Hoyer lift and wheelchairs (training provided)' Responsibilities Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature to track health status Administer medications accurately following prescribed schedules and protocols Provide specialized care for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, including memory care techniques and behavior management strategies Support residents during meals by preparing food, assisting with feeding, and ensuring proper nutrition Operate equipment such as Hoyer lifts and other assistive devices to promote safe transfers and mobility Maintain a clean and organized living environment by performing light housekeeping duties in accordance with health standards Document resident progress using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and communicate updates to healthcare teams Drive residents to appointments or activities when required, ensuring safety and punctuality Engage residents in social activities to foster community involvement and emotional well-being Experience Prior experience in assisted living, nursing homes, or home & community care settings is highly preferred Knowledge of medication administration, vital signs monitoring, and dementia or Alzheimer's care techniques is essential Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or disabilities is a strong advantage Familiarity with group home environments or personal care homes enhances your ability to succeed in this role Demonstrated caregiving skills including personal care support, behavior management, and social work principles are valued Ability to operate EMR systems efficiently for documentation purposes Valid driver's license for driving residents safely when needed is desirable Long-term care experience combined with skills in cleaning, meal preparation, and general caregiving supports your success in this position Join us in creating a positive impact every day!
