Job Description

Overview We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals to join our team within a Residential Treatment Center. In this role, you will provide essential support and care to children with developmental disabilities and autism, ensuring their well-being and promoting their independence. Your commitment to resident rights and patient care will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for those you serve. Duties As a Direct Support Professional, your responsibilities will include:
  • Be aware of the client's habits, interests, and any special needs, including any special supervision needs.
  • Ensure continuity of care for client by sharing with incoming caregivers' information about each client's activities during the previous shift and any verbal or written information or instructions given by the parent or other professionals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation which is appropriate signed and dated.
  • Know which client you are responsible for (via staff assignment sheet).
  • Be aware of and accountable for each client's on-going activity.
  • Provide the level of supervision necessary to ensure each client's safety and wellbeing, including auditory and/or visual awareness of each client's ongoing activity as appropriate.
  • Be able to intervene when necessary to ensure each client's safety.
  • Interact directly with residents.
  • Execute group, program and recreational activities.
  • Serve/prepare meals to each client according to menu.
  • Supervise residents at all times.
  • Provide transportation to the residents for appointment as needed.
  • Keep Shift Supervisor informed of all observations.
  • Provide crisis intervention for residents.
  • Complete, sign, and date all daily progress notes and serious incidents for residents by the end of daily shift.
  • The ability to recognize risk factors, warning signs of suicide.
  • Administer medication to residents according to the operation medication policy.
  • Participate in shift transition meetings.
  • Follow daily schedule as identified by supervisor. The Direct Care Staff will determine how closely to supervise a client by taking the following into account:
  • The client's age.
  • The client's individual differences and abilities.
  • The indoor and outdoor layout of the operation.
  • Surrounding circumstances, hazards, and risks.
  • The client's physical, mental, emotional, and social needs. If a client is participating in an unsupervised childhood activity, the Direct Care Staff must:
  • Know where the client will be.
  • Give the client a specific time to return to the operation or the caregiver's location.
  • Provide, arrange, or confirm an appropriate method of transportation to and from the activity.
  • Give the client a way to contact the operation in an emergency.
  • Be available to respond if the client contacts the caregiver and needs immediate assistance.
Ideal candidates will possess the following skills and experience: 21 years old Have one of the following from a program recognized by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) or a public educational entity outside of
Texas:
1. High school diploma; or 2. High school equivalency, such as a General Educational Development (GED). Be able to read, write, and communicate with co-workers, medical personnel, and other persons necessary to care for the client's needs. Be eligible for employment in the USA Successfully complete all pre-service and pre-employment requirements
  • Possess a valid Driver's License or state ID, state of Texas preferred Meet the requirements relating to Background Checks as outlined in Subchapter F of Chapter 745 of the
