Direct Support Professionals, also known as Attendant Counselors, are compassionate about the well-being of our residents with developmental and intellectual disabilities in their homes or at other locations on and off campus. In this role, you are a relief shift charge in our Intermediate Care Facility and will provide leadership and instruction to employees in the provision of activities of daily living, behavioral, social-emotional, and recreational support needs for the residents. Fircrest RHC is conveniently located just north of Seattle in the central location of Shoreline, WA, and has excellent access to transit lines. Some of what you'll be doing: Act as a relief shift charge that gives verbal and written feedback/coaching, monitors staff and ensures that care is provided according to an Individual Habilitation Plan Ensure that all issues, environmental and other pertinent information is communicated timely and to appropriate people Provide specialized care, support and training for residents with intellectual disabilities Train and assist residents in their own self-care including bathing, dressing, grooming, and household skills including meal preparation, laundry, and financial management Accompany and supervise residents ensuring health and safety of residents to/from and during activities, community events, appointments, eating, and shopping Observe, document and report physical, medical and behavioral changes Assist with medical and behavioral emergencies; provide health, safety, security and protection from abuse or neglect Provide feedback to Attendant Counselor Manager for Personal Development Plan input Responsible to guide employees and others in the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and in following all infection control policies and procedures What we're looking for: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, colleagues, and leadership Demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, and flexibility, including the ability to work holidays, weekends, and extended hours as needed Ability to effectively support individuals with challenging behaviors, including those with dual diagnoses or developmental disabilities Working knowledge of Therapeutic Options techniques and the ability to apply them appropriately in daily interactions Skill in promoting and maintaining a positive, structured, and reinforcing environment Demonstrated leadership potential, with a willingness to take on new challenges and develop leadership skills Commitment to teamwork, professional growth, and continuous development of personal and technical skills Who should apply? Professionals with a High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of experience working with people with intellectual disabilities. Additional information King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use. Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. All newly hired employees will participate and complete a paid, two-week mandatory New Employee Training Session. These trainings typically occur Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
