Job Description

The Lead Benefits Case Manager serves as a senior-level professional responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and subject matter expertise within the Economic Security Programs division. This position oversees and supports up to three Benefits Case Managers and/or a Work Specialist, coordinates team workflows and program functions, and ensures the effective delivery of services to participants. The Lead Benefits Case Manager analyzes and monitors reports across multiple program areas to identify workflow and workload challenges, recommends process improvements, and support operational efficiency. Additional responsibilities include participating in the Fraud Referral Team, collaborating with supervisors to develop work plans, mentoring staff on complex case management issues, and serving as a resource for policy interpretation and program guidance. The position may also assume supervisory or managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Economic Security Programs Supervisor or Manager and provide expertise and support to the Human Services Director on complex program matters.

In addition to leadership duties, the Lead Benefits Case Manager performs all functions of a Benefits Case Manager, including interacting with clients to address inquiries, concerns, requests for information, and ongoing case maintenance needs. The position determines eligibility, provides referrals and client education, and delivers services in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of practice. Using various computer systems and program resources, the Lead Benefits Case Manager supports individuals and families participating in public assistance programs, including SNAP, Medicaid, Adult Financial, Colorado Works, and the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program. This role requires strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills, as well as the ability to manage complex cases while supporting the development and success of team members. Minimum qualifications include a high school degree or GED with six years' Human Services Program experience Spanish language skills preferred. Some knowledge of the Colorado Benefits Management System (CBMS) is beneficial but not required. Hybrid flexible work schedule potential after six months/completion of training.
