Crisis Advocate

The Crisis Advocate is responsible for the provision of direct services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. General Responsibilities

• Be present to ensure shelter safety overnight (Approximately, 10:00 pm
• 8:00 am
• 4 nights a week)
• Provide crisis intervention to residents, and answer 24-hour hotline
• Educate and enhance victims' understanding of domestic and sexual violence
• Assist clients in acquiring information and community resources
• Assist residents with accompaniment and transportation, as needed
• Assist in achieving residents' goals and objectives
• Complete initial assessment of client needs
• Provide case management and appropriate information and referrals
• Establish, maintain, and submit resident records in a timely and confidential manner, and according to policies and procedures
• Implement organized activities and support groups for residents
• Monitor the protection of client's rights and confidentiality issues
• Maintain and implement policies and procedures of the agency
• Attend seminars and trainings to enhance current knowledge of domestic and sexual violence, and other trainings pertinent to agency's services or needs
• Report suspected/alleged abuse and/or neglect per The Cottage Domestic Violence Shelter policies
• Be familiar with the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence Service Standards
• Other duties as assigned Please note, this is an overnight position, with perks of an usually quiet atmosphere for this shift.

Qualifications Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner, and work with clients of various ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and possess an understanding of the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault. Valid Missouri Driver's License.
