GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Domestic Violence Victim Advocate provides comprehensive, trauma-informed support to individuals impacted by domestic and family violence. This Monday AND Friday role includes long-term case management, crisis intervention, legal advocacy, safety planning, community outreach, education, and facilitation of support groups. The position works closely with law enforcement, legal systems, and community partners to ensure coordinated, client-centered services.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to: Provide case management, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, and follow-up services for victims of domestic and family violence. Facilitate support groups and provide domestic violence education to clients and the broader community. Coordinate with law enforcement agencies (APD, BCSO), detectives, and district attorneys to support clients through the criminal and civil legal process. Educate clients on their legal rights and options, including assistance obtaining protective orders. Answer helpline calls, return client calls, and follow up on referrals in a timely and empathetic manner. Provide culturally responsive referrals and resources tailored to client needs, including housing, financial aid, and counseling. Assist clients with applications for Crime Victims Reparation Commission and other victim assistance programs. Maintain thorough and confidential client records in both paper and digital formats. Provide community outreach and domestic violence education/training to partner agencies and the general public. Represent the agency at community events, trainings, and collaborative meetings. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the criminal justice system, court processes, and victim rights. Understanding of domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed care, and client-centered advocacy. Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and professional in crisis situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build rapport and maintain confidentiality with clients from diverse backgrounds. Competency using word processing, spreadsheets, and case management software. Spanish language proficiency preferred. Working knowledge of community resources and experience coordinating with service providers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Sciences (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, or related field) preferred. An Associate Degree and relevant experience may substitute at a 1:1 ratio. Valid Driver's License required. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts.
