Counselor/Advocate

Purpose of Position:

The Counselor provides direct services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other serious crimes. Also assists in agency projects and trainings as needed.

Qualifications Needed:

Preferred degree in human services field and/or at least two years related experience. Must be sensitive to domestic violence, sexual abuse, women's issues and other serious crimes, as well as possess experience in crisis intervention. Good written and oral communication skills and ability to work independently and with the public required. Knowledge of court system and cultural diversity is helpful. Willingness to attend the majority of after-hours events/fundraisers is expected. Must successfully complete

training and practicum upon hiring. Continued employment dependent upon Act 33/34 and federal clearances.

Fundamental Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides crisis counseling and intervention, advocacy and accompaniment, and individual and group counseling to adult and child victims of sexual assault/incest and/or domestic violence and/or other serious crimes. Groups make take place in the evening. 2. Accompanies clients through civil and criminal justice system. 3. Accompanies clients to hospital when necessary. 4. Maintains client case records as directed by the Direct Services Supervisor. 5. Participates in agency's annual DV/SA training for volunteer counselor/advocates. 6. Attends board/community/coalition meetings as needed. 7. Assists in providing trainings inside and outside the agency, performs speaking engagements, participates in coordinating community-wide events and special projects as needed. 8. Provides hotline coverage in cooperation with other staff. 9. Compiles and documents relevant statistics. 10. Schedules counseling appointments as needed. 11. Aids in the client grievance process. 12. Assists with duties pertaining to the Adopt-a-Family program, Holiday food basket program and cell phone project. 13.
