THE POSITION
Wayne County Children and Youth Services is seeking qualified and motivated individuals interested in a rewarding public service career supporting children, families, and the community. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This is entry-level professional casework in a trainee capacity. An employee participates in a structured training program to develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide services to individuals and families to improve social, economic, emotional, and physical functioning. Work is performed under close supervision with increasing responsibility as proficiency is attained. Conducts interviews to obtain social histories and assess needs; determines and verifies eligibility for services; provides program information, referrals, and supportive counseling; assists clients and families in developing plans to improve functioning; maintains a caseload and ensures accurate documentation; gathers information from clients and collateral contacts; assists in coordinating supportive and protective services, including for at-risk children; prepares reports and correspondence; may attend court proceedings as assigned; participates in training and staff development; and performs related work as required. Work is performed under close supervision and reviewed for compliance with established policies and procedures.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 1-hour lunch. Employee may have irregular hours, including evenings or weekends. Employees 37.5 hours (full time) per week, plus non traditional and on-call hours when required. Employee may have overnight travel or out of County travel on a monthly basis.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements:
PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
You must pass a background investigation. A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
