40 hours/week 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Job Summary:
The Public Assistance Caseworker is responsible for determining client eligibility for a variety of public assistance programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, and other government benefits. The role involves interviewing clients, verifying documentation, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct intake interviews with clients to collect personal, financial, and household information. Determine eligibility for public assistance programs using established guidelines and computer systems. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and documentation. Communicate program rules, rights, and responsibilities to clients. Provide referrals to other support services as needed (e.g., housing, employment, child care). Monitor ongoing eligibility and perform periodic redeterminations of benefits. Investigate and resolve discrepancies or potential fraud. Respond to client inquiries and assist with application or renewal processes. Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities. Ensure confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School or GED Experience:
Experience working in a human services or customer service setting. Prior case management or eligibility determination experience is a plus.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and manage a caseload. Computer proficiency with case management software and databases. Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations.
Work Environment:
Office setting with regular use of a computer. Occasional travel to client homes or outreach locations may be required. Fast-paced environment with deadlines and compliance requirements.
