Full Job Description Summary:
The Survivor Care Advocate provides comprehensive, trauma-informed advocacy to survivors of sexual violence, including legal advocacy, crisis intervention, ongoing follow-up care, information and referral services, and immediate support during hospital accompaniment for sexual assault forensic exams (SANE exams) as needed. The role ensures continuity of care by directly supporting survivors in accessing legal remedies, navigating complex systems, and receiving the resources and support they need at every stage of their healing journey. This position does require the candidate to be bilingual in English and Spanish.

Survivors experience timely follow-up, seamless access to resources, and effective legal advocacy with minimal handoffs, building trust in the agency's services. Accurate documentation and proactive engagement reflect a commitment to excellence, while continuous learning and skill development contribute to the agency's mission of empowering survivors and fostering long-term impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy, and legal and medical accompaniment services to survivors of sexual violence and their families. Assist survivors in navigating the civil and legal systems, including supporting applications for protective orders, Crime Victims' Compensation (CVC), and housing assistance. Provide law enforcement and court accompaniment as needed to support survivors during the legal process. Conduct follow-up care to survivors after SANE exams, crisis line calls, and initial advocacy appointments to assess ongoing needs and offer continued support. Assist survivors in identifying and accessing community resources including legal, medical, housing, and social services. Act as a liaison between survivors and community organizations to facilitate access to resources and ensure responsiveness to survivors' needs. Advocate for survivors' rights and ensure their voices are heard in medical, legal, and social systems. Maintain and regularly update the agency's resource directory to ensure survivors have access to accurate and comprehensive support options. Maintain accurate, confidential documentation of all client services provided, including follow-up activities, resource referrals, and legal advocacy efforts, in compliance with agency protocols Record interactions and advocacy work for agency accountability and reporting purposes. Track service trends and needs to contribute to program evaluations and improvements. Serve as the first point of contact for crisis line calls during business hours, providing immediate advocacy and intervention. After-hours work may occur occasionally to support crisis situations, client needs, or program-related responsibilities Represent the agency at community events and meetings to advocate for survivors and build partnerships. Assist in the development and implementation of agency initiatives and projects as directed by the supervisor. 55% of employee's time will be spent on SASP approved direct client activities and recorded on employee's grant activity report.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or a related human services field, or equivalent experience (5 years) in victim services, is required. At least 1-2 years of experience in advocacy, case management, or victim services is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and survivor-centered care. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with survivors and community partners. Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and follow-up tasks effectively. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and client management systems for documentation. Self-directed and able to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams while maintaining professional boundaries. Willingness to learn and apply knowledge of the legal system and procedures relevant to survivors of sexual violence, including protective orders and Crime Victims' Compensation, with training provided by the agency. Must complete 40 hours of OAG-mandated sexual assault training upon hire and six hours of continuing education annually.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Ability and comfort with collaboration including being out in the community. Annual flu vaccination required. Must pass all required criminal history background checks; have a valid Texas driver's license; and maintain reliable transportation. Regular travel between hospitals and community agencies
Pay:
$45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
