$17.00 - $18.00 per hour Job description:
Position Summary:
Position works in tandem with client goals to provide support, resources and referrals for all shelter residents utilizing trauma informed care standards in all aspects of client care and shelter operations.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide assistance with obtaining personal documents, insurance/medical coverage, housing resources, job/career resources and access to appropriate community resources in collaboration/partnership with client's personal goals.
  • Attend community meetings and develop resource networks to assist in information and referral to address client needs.
  • Ensure clients have a full understanding of services available to them through the program- including counseling and legal advocacy.
  • Provide an ongoing monthly schedule of group programs and activities to engage clients in meeting goals and providing a supportive healing environment.
  • Ensure regular but voluntary interactions with residents to identify progress, needs, and support to reflect resident's choice.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records for each client, documenting services provided, appropriate interactions, and progress in consistent and ethical manner on a daily basis.
  • Work with interns to assist in providing services and meeting the needs of clients. Provide appropriate oversight and supervision as needed/required for interns.
  • Assist staff in monitoring building status and cleanliness, reporting malfunctions and ensuring building is kept clean. Actively participates in the cleaning and maintenance of the building.
  • Monitors and secures physical environment to maximize safety of residents and implementing appropriate reactions to security threats as needed.
  • Develops an understanding of agency and program policies and procedures, implementing appropriately and interpreting to residents and volunteers.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge about interpersonal violence and abuse with ability to implement Client services within a Trauma Informed Care model.
  • Ability to respond with empathy and support to victims in crisis situations and with sensitivity and awareness to diverse cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds, values, attitudes and languages.
  • Must have emotional and physical stamina to deal with a variety of stressful situations, including responses to complaints and internal and external interactions.
  • Commitment to nonviolent perspective and behavior and willingness to work in such an environment.
  • Ability to work as a team member, providing support and constructive feedback in interpersonal interaction.
  • Ability to manage time and complete multiple activities within a time frame.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to be flexible and creative.
  • Experience/familiarity with computers.
  • Ability to attend required staff meetings and/or trainings which may be scheduled during hours outside of the Advocate's regular schedule.
  • Communication skills (written and verbal, conflict resolution)
  • Administrative (answering phones, documentation)
  • Daily operations (cleaning, maintenance)
  • Arrange transportation when appropriate and necessary to shelter residents for community resources and medical/mental health appointments.
Ability to adjust work hours to requirements of the organization as needed and with advanced scheduling - including occasional overtime as needed-- to assist in providing coverage for operational hours 24/7 hours, 365 days per year including holidays. Follow DVSA policies, practices, emergency procedures and risk management procedures. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
  • High school diploma (advanced degree or some college preferred)
  • Previous experience working with children in a social services or client/victim services
  • Ability to read, write and converse in English; bi-lingual helpful
  • Must have reliable transportation with state required insurance and clean driving record

Physical Working Conditions:
