Job Description
Adult Protective Service Supervisors provide immediate supervision to workers that protect adults who are experiencing abuse, neglect, exploitation or may be at risk of immediate danger; provide access to services that support adults and families during times of hardship; and work with families to access social services. This position coordinates the work of the unit, plans, assigns, and reviews the work of their employees and is responsible for complex administrative functions. Collaboration with other inter- and intra-government units, community organizations and advocacy groups to meet the needs of the affected population. This position is critical to the health and safety of West Virginia's vulnerable adults. Due to the needs of this position, travel is required and subject to on-call responsibilities during non-traditional hours. This position is eligible for overtime pay. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Supervise daily work of subordinate staff, train subordinate staff on applicable policies and procedures. Develop and implement services and support programs within regulatory and statutory guidelines. Communicate and consult with allied agencies and organizations. Prepare necessary reports and records to reflect the operational status of the program. Evaluate effectiveness of assigned programs and services. Supervise the transition of youth to adult services. Oversee post-mortem arrangements for client remains. Review and approve payments to make sure proper payments are being provided for adult family care, residential, specialized adult family care, clothing, medications, court costs and other needs of clients. May oversee all medical decisions for individuals when appointed as guardian or health care surrogates by providing guidance to workers making difficult life decisions clients. Applicants must possess a valid WV driver's license, and reliable transportation. Applicants also must have strong communication skills, a knowledge of policy, law, and procedures regarding all programs and services. Overtime hours and frequent travel may be required. Successful completion of a background check is required for employment.

Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in Centralized Intake, Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services or Youth Service Worker may substitute for the required experience.Note:
Applicants hired into this classification must obtain licensure as a Social Worker from the West Virginia Board of Social Work within a timeframe established by the appointing agency. Until licensure is obtained, they may not perform duties that require a licensed social worker under state law or Board regulation.
