Shelter Advocate - Floater Position
ABOUT EPEC
Since 1977, the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (EPEC) has been serving victims and survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, human trafficking, and dating violence in the Eastern Panhandle.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a compassionate, trauma-informed full-time Shelter Advocate for our floater position . This role provides coverage across shelter shifts and requires a high level of flexibility. The ideal candidate will be dependable, self-motivated, and have excellent professional/ethical boundaries and communication skills. A relevant degree and/or experience in social work, psychology, social services, or related fields is preferred.

SALARY & BENEFITS

SCHEDULE & PAY PERKS
Work a 4-day work week (32 hours) while being paid the equivalent of a 40-hour full-time schedule , with benefits available. As a floater, you will work a variety of shelter shifts to cover staffing gaps and PTO requests . The schedule is created monthly , giving you some predictability while still offering flexibility. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree preferred (experience may substitute for education) Strong writing and communication skills Ability to relate well with people and handle emergencies effectively Dependable, adaptable, and trauma-informed Experience working with children and families preferred
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Shelter Advocate provides supervision, support, and advocacy for in-house clients in accordance with the mission of
EPEC. DUTIES
(include but are not limited to): Interview new clients, complete intake forms, and develop an initial safety plan Conduct exit interviews, provide safety planning, and ensure warm handoff to outreach advocates for continued services Answer the hotline and provide crisis counseling, information, and referral Maintain accurate logs, records, and case management documentation Support and monitor clients, documenting activities in shift logs and communication logs Assist clients with clothing, supplies, and daily needs Coordinate client housekeeping responsibilities and ensure completion Provide peer counseling, mediation, and emotional support to residents Supervise safe storage and administration of client medications Support client programs, counseling sessions, and education opportunities Orient new residents to shelter rules and policies Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners Participate in groups, house meetings, staff meetings, and trainings Assist in training new staff and volunteers Maintain professional, ethical, and trauma-informed boundaries Achieve and/or maintain Certified Domestic Violence Advocate and/or Sexual Assault Advocate certification status, when applicable Attend at least two (2) WVCADV advocate certification trainings annually as required (travel may be required) Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shelter manager, Director of Shelter Services or Executive Director
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
(evening/weekend shifts): Complete filing, paperwork, and data entry as requested
