Job Description

This student worker position is responsible for leading the Civic Lab, supporting student engagement by connecting learning to real community needs through hands-on programming and partnerships, including a collaboration with the David Mathews Center for Civic Life. This role assists in planning and facilitating workshops and discussions for college students, while also working directly with youth in local schools to deliver activities related to civic responsibility and community involvement. Responsibilities include coordinating and leading volunteers, organizing events, supporting outreach efforts, and helping plan and implement initiatives such as a summer civics camp for elementary students. The position also involves collaborating with campus and community partners and assisting with basic program tracking and evaluation. This role also contributes to broader Office of Civic Engagement initiatives, helping connect students with meaningful opportunities to serve and engage in the community. Minimum Qualifications Must be a current Troy University student enrolled at least half-time. Interest in civic engagement, community service, and local community issues Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both campus and community stakeholders Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Demonstrated leadership experience through campus involvement, work, or other activities Prior volunteer experience Please note: Student positions are FICA/Medicare exempt only if students are enrolled in classes in the semester work is performed. To qualify for the FICA/Medicare exemption, you must be enrolled on a half-time basis for the Fall, Spring, or Summer. Preferred Qualifications Experience leading or coordinating volunteers Experience planning or organizing events, programs, or activities Experience working with youth or in school settings Experience facilitating or supporting group discussions in a respectful and engaging manner Creativity and willingness to contribute ideas for programming and engagement Additional leadership, communication, or community engagement experience beyond the required qualifications
