Full Job Description Job Description:
Arkansas Statewide Organizer Arkansas Statewide Organizer Location:
Arkansas (Little Rock preferred) Position Type:
Full-Time Salary:
$45,000, plus benefits and PTO ______________________________________________________________________ Role Overview Anthropocene Alliance (A2) brings together, supports, and organizes alongside grassroots groups on the frontlines of climate change, building collective power to fight for environmental protection and health across the United States and its territories. We are the nation's largest coalition of frontline communities, representing more than 450 member groups. Recognizing the importance of community organizing in building grassroots power and systems change, A2 has established State Organizing Committees (SOCs) in select states, including Arkansas.
A2 Statewide Organizers bring together grassroots groups to increase their capacity to carry out environmental justice campaigns. Organizers assist these groups with base-building, campaign coordination, landscape analysis, skills-building, technical assistance, and connections to city, state, and federal policymakers. The Arkansas Statewide Organizer will play a critical role in advancing the work of the AR SOC. Key Responsibilities Further the development and advance the work of the Arkansas SOC, bringing together grassroots groups across the state to carry out statewide, issue-based campaigns that reflect the needs and priorities of frontline communities. Work with SOC members to develop campaign strategies and organize regular actions in support of those campaigns. Increase the effectiveness of campaigns through landscape mapping, power analysis, identification of key players, targeted outreach lists, compiled media lists, and identification of gaps. Coordinate outreach and base-building activities to increase participation and awareness, including canvassing, tabling at local events, flyering, phone banking, and organizing public forums. Maintain and cultivate relationships with partners, allies, decision-makers, and community leaders. Strengthen SOC operational capacity, infrastructure, and shared leadership by organizing monthly meetings and quarterly community organizing workshops; capturing and disseminating meeting notes and action items; maintaining regular communication with all members; and creating and managing a calendar of actions, meetings, and events. Increase and sustain SOC member engagement and expand membership through ongoing outreach and relationship-building. Cultivate partnerships with local colleges, universities, and other service-oriented organizations to strengthen SOC campaigns with research, analysis, data, volunteers, and technical expertise. Provide regular updates and reports to the Community Organizing Manager and, as needed, to A2 staff and members. Monitor and evaluate campaign progress, documenting lessons learned, successes, challenges, and best practices. Organize actions and support community participation in relevant decision-making, regulatory, and public policy processes. Requirements Minimum of 2 years of community organizing experience. Experience facilitating leadership development and building power in under-resourced communities while establishing trust and long-term relationships. Experience in coalition or campaign work, coordinating activities across multiple groups and communities. Self-starter with the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness. Excellent communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and cross-cultural skills, including the ability to convey complex information and collaborate with community members, leaders, coalitions, researchers, and public officials. Proven ability to plan, manage, and implement multiple projects and campaigns using sound judgment, with strong organization, attention to detail, and professionalism. Proficiency with Google Workspace, and virtual meeting platforms. Comfort using social media as an organizing and outreach tool. Passion for environmental and social justice, systems change, and community power building. Willingness and ability to occasionally travel throughout the state as needed. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Schedule & Logistics This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position that requires flexibility, including evenings and weekends, as much of the work is shaped around the availability of community members. At least 20 hours per week will be spent engaging directly with Arkansas SOC members through in-person visits, phone calls, community events, and video conferencing. A quiet or private space for meetings is needed. The role also requires a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Transportation costs will be reimbursed.
