This position is 20-25 hours/week with benefits including generous PTO. Compensation is $31.25/hour. Anticipated start date May 1, 2026.

ABOUT US BACR

is a nonprofit organization founded in 1976 with the mission to "promote the healthy development of individuals and families, encourage service and volunteerism, and help build community." Within BACR, Engaging Communities in Advocacy and Policy (ECAP) facilitates community-based public health advocacy with communities throughout the Bay Area. To fulfill that mission the ECAP team works with youth and community members to implement campaigns to increase fruit and vegetable consumption among kids, pass comprehensive tobacco policy, and develop media campaigns to reduce youth access to alcohol and drugs in the community. Within ECAP, the Youth Opioid Awareness Coordinator works with transitional-aged youth in West Contra Costa County to reduce opioid misuse, increase knowledge of naloxone use, and reduce stigma associated with help-seeking through a peer-led communications campaign.

CO-COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruit, train, and co-supervise 6-8 transitional-aged youth (18-24 years old) as Youth Leaders (YL) for a peer-led opioid prevention cohort at Contra Costa College. Co-coordinate appropriate trainings and provide ongoing project support for Youth Leaders, including weekly cohort meetings focused on communication and leadership skill development, community-based research, and campaign implementation. Utilize a social justice youth development model and the P-Process framework (Inquire, Design Strategy, Create & Test, Mobilize & Monitor, Evaluate & Evolve) to guide Youth Leaders in developing, implementing, and evaluating an opioid prevention and harm reduction communications campaign. Conduct monthly one-on-one check-ins with Youth Leaders and provide 3-6 enrichment opportunities per year to promote leadership and group development. Support Youth Leaders in conducting formative research with 100 or more West County youth (ages 14-24) to inform campaign design, strategy, and theory of change. Guide Youth Leaders in developing, testing, and implementing a multi-channel communications campaign. Support campaign evaluation and dissemination. Act as a youth development practitioner in accordance with BACR Best Practices. Develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including Contra Costa College, school and community partners, other service providers, community leaders, and civic organizations. Manage day-to-day program operations, monitor achievement of outcome goals and objectives. Collect relevant data; provide documentation and reports; support evaluation and monitoring. Participate in county workgroups, agency committees, and other sponsored activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS B.A.

in a related area of study such as public health, education, social work, communications, or public policy; OR three years of community-based experience with emphasis on community health, substance use prevention, or communications preferred. Demonstrated experience working with transitional-aged youth (18-24) and/or community stakeholders to promote health and wellbeing; experience in public health or substance use prevention highly desirable. Knowledge of or willingness to learn about opioid misuse, harm reduction strategies, and substance use prevention approaches. Experience with community-based participatory research, communications campaign development, or strategic communications preferred. Cultural humility and substantial experience working with diverse communities; ability to be flexible and positive working with people and organizations with different backgrounds and viewpoints. Excellent communication, facilitation, and organizational skills; confidence in public speaking; and ability to balance competing demands. Valid driver's license required; Spanish-English bilingual preferred.
