As part of WSLB's management team, the Director of Outreach & Education is responsible for meeting goals intended to enhance the organization's presence in the community . This role leads the Outreach and Education and Youth Services Team on various projects, like the TDVAM Youth Conference and 40-hour domestic violence advocate training program , that further domestic violence prevention, education, and early intervention. The ideal candidate serves as a liaison between the public and WSLB to make domestic violence education accessible, presenting an incredible opportunity to empower the community and drive our life-saving mission forward. Mission Statement The mission of WomenShelter of Long Beach (WSLB) is to eliminate domestic violence through compassionate intervention, education, and personal empowerment. Opportunity Full-Time Exempt On-Site/In person (Long Beach, CA 90807) Reports To Executive Director Compensation and Benefits Overview $90,000 - $110,000 (DOE) 401(k) with 3% matching after 6 months Generous paid time off programs Medical, dental, vision insurance Professional development Key Responsibilities Outreach and Education (40%) Oversee the efforts and reach of the Outreach Department and Youth Services program. Coordinate the Volunteer and Internship Program, including recruitment, onboarding, placement, and supervision. Develop local outreach strategy and impactful training curricula for both in-person and online delivery. Plan and execute key initiatives, such as the 40-hour domestic violence advocate training, the TDVAM Youth Conference, and the Annual DV Awareness Month event. Develop and manage social media content while monitoring audience reach and platform performance. Establish budgets and track income and expenses for Outreach events. Community, Public Relations, and Development (40%) Build and maintain partnerships with community sectors like faith-based organizations, colleges, and human services agencies. Represent WSLB at public forums, collaborative meetings, and speaking engagements. Collaboratively plan activities and presentations for public and higher education institutions. Support the Development Department with grant proposals and fundraising events (e.g., annual Gala, Long Beach Gives). Documentation (15%) Maintain accurate documentation of outreach, evaluation data, and client files required for funding entities (CalWORKs, Cal OES, etc.). Document events with pictures for social media and maintain sign-in sheets. Provide general support across departments and assist with event setup. Adherence to Policies and Procedures (5%) Adhere to standards of professional responsibility and all WSLB policies. Critical Qualifications & Skills Master's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Communication, Non-profit Management or a related field (preferred). 3 years of professional experience, preferably in outreach and education or public relations. 40-hour Domestic Violence training required within 90 days of employment. Strong comfort level with public speaking and representing the agency. Fluent with Microsoft Office programs and experienced with Illustrator and graphic design. Spanish speaking preferred. Valid CA driver's license and valid auto insurance. Must be able to safely assist clients in emergencies, climb 20 or more stairs, lift 25 pounds, and work with and around dogs. History and Background WSLB was founded by Dr. Virginia Corbett in 1977. In 1999, the agency opened the Domestic Violence Resource Center (DVRC), the first community-based, storefront counseling and resource center in Greater Long Beach — offering easily accessible outreach services. WSLB continues to provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered services to those impacted by domestic violence.
