The City of Napa is excited to launch its 2026 Summer Internship Program ! This is a great opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain meaningful, real-world experience in local government! This is a single recruitment for multiple internship opportunities. Applicants will be asked to indicate their position(s) of interest in the supplemental questionnaire. • Public Art Intern Public Works Intern Interns will support departmental operations, contribute to impactful projects, and gain exposure to a wide range of public service careers.

Interns will work closely with experienced professionals, receive mentorship, and contribute to real projects that serve the Napa community. This program is directly aligned with the City's mission of growing a vibrant, sustainable community through thoughtful leadership and dedication to excellence. The Summer Intern Program is designed to: Provide exposure to local government functions Support ongoing departmental projects and operational needs Offer professional development and networking opportunities Increase awareness of careers in local government Ideal candidates for the role of Intern will have shown success in demonstrating the following competencies:

Note About Temporary & Part-Time Positions :

Part-time positions are not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year (July 1

• June 30).

Temporary and part-time employees are at-will and not covered by the Civil Service System. Some benefits for temporary employees include sick leave, temporary employee retirement plan, and 3.5% bilingual pay if applicable.

Community Resources & Development Intern:

The Community Resources & Development Intern will receive broad exposure across multiple divisions, including Housing, Economic Development, Code Compliance, and Planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform public outreach and provide support at community events on a variety of community development initiatives Support preparation of Notices of Funding Availability (NOFA)s Assist with constituent services and customer support Collect and verify field data Support research-based projects

Learning Outcomes:

Exposure to planning and community development initiatives Understanding of local government programs and services Experience in public-facing service and policy support work Parks and Recreation•

Community Events Intern:

The Community Events Intern will support the planning, coordination, and execution of City events and programs such as the 4th of July celebration, Fuller Park Community Playdates, and the Alston Dog Parade.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with event planning documents (timelines, site maps, staff schedules) Coordinate with vendors, partners, and City departments Support marketing efforts, including social media and event promotion Conduct research on event trends and community engagement strategies Assist with on-site setup, operations, and breakdown

Learning Outcomes:

Understanding the full lifecycle of municipal event planning Experience delivering community events Development of communication and organizational skills Parks and Recreation•

Public Art Intern:

The Public Art Intern will support Napa's Public Art Program, contributing to a variety of permanent and temporary art initiatives. For more information about our Public Art Programs, click here !

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with research and curatorial tasks for public art projects Support documentation, reporting, and promotional materials Participate in community engagement activities and stakeholder meetings Assist with installation and deinstallation of art projects

Learning Outcomes:

Understanding of municipal public art programs Exposure to curatorial, administrative, and project management work Experience in public art planning and implementation

Public Works Intern:

The Public Works Intern will support engineering and administrative functions, gaining hands-on experience in infrastructure and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with field measurements and documentation of project sites Support file organization and records management Collect and verify field data and existing conditions Assist with project documentation, summaries, and reporting Provide front counter assistance and direct inquiries

Learning Outcomes:

Understanding of project lifecycle from concept to execution Exposure to engineering tools, technology, and processes Insight into how Public Works collaborates across departments

Knowledge of:

Basic principles of public administration and organizational support; Basic research and analytical methods; Modern office software; Basic math and professional writing skills; Principles of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity; Effective customer service techniques.

Ability to:

Communicate effectively orally and in writing; Represent the City with dignity, integrity, and the spirit of cooperation in all relations with staff and the public; Respond to citizen questions or problems; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties; Demonstrate tact and diplomacy; Make sound decisions within assigned guidelines; Observe and comply with City and mandated rules, regulations and protocols; Foster an environment that embraces the City's Core Values of Integrity, Service, Inclusion, and Collaboration.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the best qualified candidates. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from, an accredited college or university in a field related to the area of assignment. Recent graduate is typically defined as within one year of degree completion.

Special Requirements:

Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required for some assignments.
