Service Manager of Social Recreation and Volunteer Services Organization:

Associate Director of Lifelong Learning About The Arc San Francisco The Arc San Francisco is a non-profit service and advocacy organization dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin counties. Our mission is to partner with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they design their futures and transform our communities through lifelong learning and self-determination. We offer a wide range of services that touch every aspect of adult life, including independent living supports, skills building, employment training, and creative expression. Position Overview The Manager of Social Recreation and Volunteer Services oversees social and recreational activities, in-person and remote, outside of regular program hours, fostering community connections and inclusion. This role recruits volunteers, manages events, and supports participants' involvement in community activities in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties.
Hours:
Monday through Friday 11am to 7:30pm and some weekends, as needed.
Key Responsibilities Program Management:
Build relationships with community partners to create volunteer opportunities for participants. Oversee Social & Recreation (Friends Like Me) program participation, enrollment, and retention. Partner with Intake Team to promote program growth (e.g., tours and presentations). Manage the Friends Like Me calendar of social/recreational events, including monthly "We Gotta Dance." Oversee all Friends Like Me activities and classes and hold responsibility for their development and growth. Coordinate weekend outings. Organize participant events during regular hours (e.g., holiday parties). Valentines Halloween Thanksgiving December Holiday Handle day-to-day participant and program issues and communicate with families and partners. Ensure timely reporting to funders and stakeholders and compliance with policies and regulations. Ensure the completion of Individual Service Plans for participants in the program and attend annual participant ISP meetings.
Volunteer Management:
Align volunteer efforts with the agency's mission. Develop volunteer job descriptions, maintain records, and recruit volunteers. Support volunteers for social and recreational events and special activities. Coordinate PULSE, The Arc's young professionals' group. Maintain participant data in CRM and databases.
Team Supervision:
Supervise and train Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). Ensure high-quality, person-centered services. Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback and coaching as needed, meet with direct reports for regular individual supervision, approve payroll, and support DSP goal setting.
Communications & Outreach:
Update event details on The Arc's website and assist with social media and publicity. Help with content creation (e.g., photos, videos) for events. Share participant achievements with the Advancement Team.
Additional Responsibilities:
Attend required meetings and training. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in liberal arts or related field, or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, preferred. Ability to work required program hours: Monday through
Friday:
11am to 7:30pm and some weekends. Experience recruiting, training, retaining, and managing a wide diversity of volunteers. Comfort and skill at managing others and navigating interpersonal challenges. Ability to motivate and excite volunteers to work toward a common goal. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Proficiency with social media, word processing, spreadsheet, communications (e.g. email). Valid California Driver's license, clean motor vehicle report, and acceptance as a covered driver by The Arc's auto insurance company. Work Environment This position is primarily located at 1500 Howard Street, San Francisco. Some work time will be spent at The Arc San Francisco satellite sites in Burlingame, CA and Marin, CA, and in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area with organizational partners.
