Job Description

Summary This 6-month temporary bilingual position supports the operations, logistics, and coordination of SLO Food Bank's Pantry & Community Hub and Outreach programs, increasing awareness of the SLO Food Bank's network of food resources and CalFresh benefits, and supporting operational excellence and high-quality customer service. A successful Community Outreach Coordinator is an extroverted, people-person who is passionate about serving our neighbors in need. Core Duties & Responsibilities Community Engagement & Outreach Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable representative of the SLO Food Bank, fostering positive connections with neighbors, volunteers, and community partners. Engage at outreach events by setting up engaging displays and sharing information about available food resources and benefits in SLO County. Attend meetings with community groups aligned with the SLO Food Bank's mission to promote food resources and benefits, share information, and foster collaborations. Assist with the preparation of outreach materials, program materials, social media, videos, and presentations. Collaborate with the CalFresh Outreach Manager to support CalFresh engagement efforts, including community presentations, outreach events and boothing, and the distribution of informational materials to partners. Other supportive duties as assigned. Data & Survey Support Support the distribution and analysis of bilingual surveys and feedback initiatives to improve services and elevate the voices of neighbors and program participants. Handle administrative tasks and communication associated with tracking data for grants, surveys, and program evaluation. Assist program staff with monitoring and evaluation activities, including site reviews and surveys, to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and assess program impact and progress. Collect, organize, and file completed paperwork and track data from the Pantry & Community Hub. Program Coordination & Client Support Connect walk-in visitors and callers with food, information about distributions, and additional nutrition assistance referrals in English and Spanish. Provide high-quality customer service at our Pantry & Community Hub during hours of operation. Coordinate with program and warehouse staff to organize and streamline internal systems of communication and logistics for the Pantry & Community Hub. Submit food orders for the Pantry & Community Hub to the warehouse team as needed. Maintain Pantry & Community Hub inventory by restocking shelves, monitoring stock levels, and performing regular inventory counts. Qualifications Required Passion for the SLO Food Bank mission and a strong desire to compassionately serve community members. Advanced proficiency in bilingual (Spanish and English) speaking and writing skills. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills; the ability to work independently and set priorities. Experience working with volunteers and people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Strong cultural competence and ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Data-driven mindset with ability to track and report on communication impact. High school diploma or equivalent. Possesses a valid Driver's License in the state of residence, clean driving record, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation. Preferred Associate or bachelor's degree. Salary Starting salary range is $21-24 per hour, depending on qualifications. Benefits CA-state mandated sick leave. Eligible for participation in optional 401k plan, with employer matching 50% of employee's annual contribution up to a total organizational match of 3% of annual salary. Work Conditions and Physical Demands Work conditions and physical demands may include: The ability to stand for extended periods of time; the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer); to occasionally lift, carry, and load up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and crouch repeatedly throughout the day. Standing, walking and kneeling repeatedly throughout the day. Must be capable of spending extended periods of time entering data into a database, with the potential for frequent interruptions.
Variable work environment:
work is regularly conducted both indoors and outdoors with varying environmental conditions in various locations. Indoor facilities kept at cold temperature, so warm clothing is required. Noise level varies from quiet office environment to very noisy warehouse. Exhaust and dust may be present in the warehouse receiving area. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
