Founded in 2006, Creative Minds International PCS (CMI) is a public charter school serving students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade in Northeast Washington, DC. CMI's mission is to develop globally minded, academically excellent students through a rigorous, arts-integrated curriculum rooted in community and culture. POSITION OVERVIEW
CMI is seeking a dynamic, community-centered Family & Community Outreach Coordinator to serve as the bridge between CMI's school community and the families and neighborhoods it serves. This role combines strategic communications and marketing with on-the-ground recruitment, relationship-building, and family engagement support. The ideal candidate brings storytelling instincts, social media fluency, and the interpersonal warmth to represent CMI authentically in both digital spaces and neighborhood settings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Family Recruitment & Enrollment Outreach
Canvass CMI's priority areas including community events, rec centers, parks, daycares, and high-traffic locations in Wards 4 and 5 to generate qualified leads per the recruitment plan
Engage prospective families in compelling conversations about CMI's academic programs, school culture, and PK3 to 8 model; serve as an on-brand ambassador for CMI
Staff pop-up tables, dismissal windows, and neighborhood events; distribute materials and collect parent interest and contact information end to end
Build relationships with local partners including daycares, rec centers, and faith and community organizations to keep CMI visible between events
Guide families through the My School DC lottery process and provide on-the-spot application support to convert interest into submissions
Conduct phone and text follow-up to confirm lottery submissions, verify CMI ranking, and nurture leads through to enrollment
Track contacts and conversions against recruitment targets; report results regularly to inform strategy; use student outcomes and testimonials to address common family questions
Communications & Marketing In partnership with the Director, Family Engagement & Community Partnerships, implement the school's communications strategy across digital and print channels
Oversee CMI's social media accounts; develop content strategies and monitor engagement to grow CMI's digital presence
Create, update, and manage content for the school's website and calendars to ensure it is current, engaging, and reflective of CMI's mission
Develop and distribute print and online publications including e-blasts, newsletters, brochures, annual reports, appeal letters, and marketing materials
Coordinate production of high-quality marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency and alignment with CMI's visual identity
Monitor and respond to posts on family engagement tools; collect, analyze, and report on communications and outreach metrics to inform ongoing strategy
Ensure compliance with the DC Open Meetings Act related to public Board of Trustee meetings
School Community Engagement Serve as primary point of contact for families regarding extended day and Global Studio Friday communication, including enrollment, scheduling, and club offerings
Communicate club offerings, sign-ups, and schedule changes clearly and proactively ahead of each cycle
Communicate proactively with families through newsletters, updates, and direct outreach in collaboration with the Director, Family Engagement & Community Partnerships
Collaborate with the communications team to promote and celebrate Global Studio Friday activities via social media and the weekly newsletter
Maintain a welcoming, responsive presence at daily pick-up and program transitions
Support the Director, Family Engagement & Community Partnerships in coordinating family-facing events, orientations, and engagement initiatives tied to extended day and Global Studio Friday
Other Duties & Responsibilities
Lead the planning and execution of family information sessions, school readiness workshops, and community recruitment events
Collaborate across teams to identify and elevate CMI's programs, partnerships, and successes through multiple communication channels
Provide regular feedback to school leadership to inform ongoing refinement of the recruitment and engagement plan
Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, education, or a related field
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience
Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills; an excellent storyteller with knowledge of social media platforms and content strategy best practices
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and web-based applications
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse families and communities with warmth and authenticity; comfortable working independently and collaboratively
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in sensitive conversations
Must meet all employment requirements including a satisfactory background check
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English and Spanish or Amharic strongly preferred
Familiarity with Northeast DC communities, schools, and family networks
Experience working with diverse families in DC charter or urban education settings; high tolerance for ambiguity during fast-moving recruitment seasons

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach, and communicate effectively. The employee must be able to lift and move materials as required in the course of community outreach events.
