Job Description:
The company is looking for individuals to join their team for the Fishing for Resilience Initiative . This community-focused program aims to provide essential support to families, schools, and local communities in post-hurricane disaster. The program uses fishing as a therapeutic tool to promote healing, foster unity, alleviate trauma, reduce anxiety, and provide stress relief for families and individuals facing the aftermath of disasters. By bringing together local fishing enthusiasts and community members, we aim to offer an environment for connection, recovery, and resilience building during times of hardship. As a Disaster Relief Specialist, play a role in ensuring the success in providing essential support post-hurricane disaster programs by carrying out the following responsibilities:
Relationship Building:
Establish and maintain relationships with local schools, families, community groups, and other stakeholders to promote participation in the program Serve as the primary liaison between families, schools, community members, and the organization, ensuring communication and follow-up on needs and resources
Resource Coordination and Support:
Act as the main point of contact for families and individuals who need support, guiding them through available resources and services Provide information and connect residents with appropriate community partners and agencies (e.g., local government, FEMA, local nonprofits) for assistance, including securing housing, employment recovery, and mental health services Distribute health, safety, and disaster recovery information, ensuring that all participants are informed of available services
Disaster Recovery Liaison:
Work closely with community recovery entities and governmental bodies to provide timely and correct support and information to impacted individuals and families Identify individuals and households affected by hurricanes and provide direction on how to access recovery resources, including emergency financial assistance, housing recovery, and employment restoration Act as a liaison to FEMA and other relevant agencies, ensuring that individuals are properly enrolled for disaster relief programs
Event Coordination:
Plan, organize, and execute community-focused fishing events and other recreational activities that bring together families, local residents, and fishing enthusiasts to foster unity and healing Coordinate logistics for these events, including securing venues, recruiting volunteers, and managing event promotion to ensure maximum participation Monitor the effectiveness of these activities and adjust plans as needed to meet the evolving needs of the community
Collaboration and Outreach:
Collaborate with schools, local businesses, community centers, and other organizations to build a network of support and promote resilience throughout the community Develop partnerships with local fisherpersons, volunteer groups, and mental health professionals to enhance program offerings and support Attend community meetings and outreach events to advocate for the Fishing for Resilience Initiative and gather feedback from residents and participants
Work Environment:
The role offers the ability, including the possibility to work remotely when applicable The position may involve travel to local disaster-affected areas This role will require ability to work varying work hours, including occasional evenings or weekends to accommodate community events and disaster recovery needs Disaster Relief Specialists will need to have the ability to work both in the field and remotely, supporting families, schools, and local organizations
