Community Engagement Coordinator 2026 JOB
DESCRIPTION
The community engagement coordinator works to amplify the impact of Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity by recruiting and stewarding volunteers. This position works closely with many volunteers and staff. This position uses a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to understand the most pressing needs of the organization and take necessary steps to engage new and ongoing volunteers in the work. A large portion of the job is spent in the community doing outreach, but the person in this position should also feel comfortable using data to track and report. An ability to engage with cultural humility and work with people from a variety of backgrounds and demographics is essential.
Time Commitment:
TBD - please let us know with your application if you are interested in 24 hours per week or 32 hours per week. Hours will be set before you start. We want to find the right person for the job.
Pay Rate:
$25/hour

Reporting:
To the Executive Director, but also works collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
Schedule:
Meetings often occur at fixed times, but many other hours can be flexible. Availability for networking events and meetings required. Communication about hours required. At least one day per week in our Northampton office required.

Responsibilities:
  • Recruit new volunteers to Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity's work through networking, community outreach and education
  • Provide volunteer stewardship - following up with new volunteers to ensure engagement, planning volunteer appreciation for existing volunteers and reaching out to lapsed volunteers
  • Assist with volunteer placement, i.e. reaching out to new or existing volunteers to fill specific vacancies and recognize volunteers ready for leadership roles
  • Coordinate volunteer training and development for construction volunteers in coordination with the Construction Coordinator
  • Track volunteers in a shared database, to help maintain relationships with PVHH, not just individual staff, and for reporting purposes
  • Assist the hospitality committee in making construction volunteers feel welcome.
  • Assist the family selection committee with outreach to community-based organizations when marketing new housing opportunities
  • Maintain a list of agencies for referrals when community members call PVHH with needs beyond the scope of our programs
  • Work collaboratively with the director of resource development to understand overlapping community connections between volunteers and donors, and coordinate outreach
  • Work with Construction Coordinator to fill specific construction volunteer needs and to schedule Team Build days
  • Develop and maintain social media strategy in coordination with volunteers and staff
  • Advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) goals in coordination with DEI Committee and staff
  • Contribute to staff-wide administrative and strategy conversations and tasks Seeking applicants with:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to listen, learn and work respectfully and collaboratively with people who have social identities different from your own
  • Strong dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion across race, ethnicity, gender expression, sexual orientation, class and disability, demonstrated through academic, employment, and life experience
  • Exceptional partnering and team-work skills; ability to engage with integrity, transparency, cultural humility, and accountability
  • Comfort talking with new people (on the phone and in person) and networking in the community
  • Ability to center relationships with the organization that will be long lasting
  • Highly skilled at email, Word, Google docs, Dropbox, Zoom and other computer programs for communication and tracking
  • Proficient at using Excel and reviewing data and trends
  • Experience with community organizing a plus
  • Event planning and knowledge of workforce or volunteer education a plus
  • A knowledge of residential construction a plus
