Tucson, AZ Primary Function:
Under the direction of the Pastor is responsible for coordinating the liturgical and/or liturgical music programs for Sunday and other celebrations. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received." (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform as a lay ecclesial minister in support of the parish's spiritual and pastoral mission. Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee's professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures. In consultation and with the pastor and/or liturgical committee develop the liturgical and music program for the parish including the formation of a choir and musical groups as necessary for liturgical celebrations. Ensure that all liturgical participants, musicians, and choir members are well-versed in the liturgy of the Church and the propriety of their duties including an understanding of the rubrics of the Church. Ensure that all participants are aware of Church protocol including maintaining an environment of respect and solemnity at all liturgical celebrations Ensure that the liturgical programs and the music utilized is in accordance with the currently accepted practices of the Roman Catholic Church Meet on a regular basis and maintain open communications with volunteers and provide training as necessary Recruit and form musicians and choir members as necessary Develop and manage a budget including as necessary, supplies, and song and music books for the liturgies. Physical/Mental Requirements:
Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
Required Activities:
Walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; carrying; and keyboarding.
Basic Qualifications:
A working knowledge of, and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations interpersonal skills Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the public. Must be a self-starter; well organized; attention to detail, perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must at all times. Proficiency in computer technology. Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance. Ability to successfully pass a background, and criminal history check.
Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree in liturgy and liturgical music, or equivalent training. Experience in the liturgy of the
Roman Catholic Church Other/Preferred Skills:
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
