06/2026 Purpose and Scope This position provides overall coordination of the parish liturgy program under the direction of the Pastor and plans and executes music for weekend Masses, holy days, and other special occasions. Responsible for managing section leaders and other professional musicians. Essential Job Functions Under supervision of and in collaboration with the Pastor, coordinate all Parish liturgies and related events. Participates and encourages participation by parish liturgical ministers in Diocesan, national and regional liturgy organizations. Prepares prayers of the faithful for all weekend Masses In collaboration with Pastor and others as deemed necessary, prepare scripts for celebration of Holy Days, Triduum rituals, and other celebrations throughout the liturgical year, including Confirmation and First Holy Communion, in coordination with faith formation & sacramental preparation. Under the supervision of the Pastor, they oversee and are the contact person for: Art & Environment Committee (includes oversight of flowers) Altar Linen Ministry (cleaning of the church by volunteers) and Linen cleaning Liturgical Ministries including Mass Captains, Altar Servers, Ushers, Extraordinary Ministers, Lectors, and Greeters (scheduling and training) Communicate needs of music liturgy with pastor and office staff Assures that appropriate musical selections are chosen for liturgy Executes weekly choir rehearsals (September through May) to practice music Lead (podium or piano) masses on weekends Makes verbal announcements from the Cantor stand at all weekend masses Oversight of parish audio/visual systems and related technology needs Work with payroll for section leaders and other necessary musicians Manage and maintain the budget as prescribed by parish council Maintain and build positive relationship with music ministry volunteers and parishioners Available as the first option to coordinate and perform music for weddings and funerals Performs praise and worship music for various programs at the request of the pastor, including Vacation Bible School, Christmas events, Volunteer appreciation events, etc. Provides music during Parish Missions and penance services Additional Job Functions Performs any other job-related duties as necessary for the smooth flow of work in the department. Must be a fluent and knowledgeable music reader (written notes, implied harmonies, rhythmic values) Should be a proficient pianist (reading notes, and chord symbols) Must have substantial knowledge of traditional and contemporary songs Strong leadership and interpersonal skills Effective communication Balance budget, use spreadsheets Any other tasks as delegated by the
Pastor Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Knowledge of Catholic liturgy, including liturgical documents and music resources Knowledge of Roman Missal and Lectionary Practicing Catholic Demonstrated ability of serving collaboratively with other members of Parish Staff Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Theology, Liturgy or similar field Or 5+ years of experience as a member of a music ministry team Active, practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church In-depth knowledge and training in Theology and Liturgy in the Roman Catholic tradition.
