Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB), El Segundo, California Summary Veritas Management Group (VMG) provides mission-aligned professional services in support of federal agencies nationwide. We partner with Department of the Air Force Chaplain Corps programs to deliver high-quality religious education and ministry support services that strengthen military families and communities. The Catholic Religious Education Coordinator (CREC) serves as the lead coordinator and catechetical instructor for the Catholic Religious Education (RE) Program at Los Angeles Air Force Base. The coordinator develops, implements, and administers a comprehensive religious education program for children and youth (preschool through 12th grade) in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the guidelines of the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS). Working under the supervision of the Contract Catholic Priest and in coordination with the Delta Chaplain, the Coordinator ensures effective delivery of catechesis, sacramental preparation, youth ministry activities, volunteer training, and program administration. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Catholic Religious Education Coordinator will: Religious Education Instruction Teach Catholic Religious Education classes weekly (Sunday program). Provide catechesis for sacramental preparation, including First Reconciliation and Confirmation. Develop and implement lesson plans using approved Catholic curriculum materials. Ensure instruction reflects authentic Catholic doctrine and moral teaching. Program Management Establish and maintain a comprehensive Catholic RE Program serving military members, dependents, and authorized personnel. Register students and maintain accurate enrollment and attendance records. Oversee Junior and Senior High Youth Ministry programming. Co-lead annual Ecumenical Vacation Bible School (VBS). Volunteer Leadership & Training Recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteer catechists and youth ministry leaders. Conduct monthly volunteer training sessions. Plan and lead semi-annual teacher training conferences. Maintain volunteer training documentation and signed Statements of Understanding. Administration & Reporting Develop and submit an annual program budget (CTOF). Submit an annual event calendar and quarterly status reports. Maintain statistical records and required program documentation. Coordinate closely with the Catholic Priest and Chapel staff. Maintain professionalism and uphold standards of conduct appropriate to a military chapel environment. Education and/or
Experience Required Religious Standing:
Confirmed Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. Actively practicing Roman Catholic with regular participation in the sacramental life of the Church. Commitment to faithfully represent and uphold the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Ability to work in harmony with the Archdiocese for the Military Services and assigned Catholic Priest.
Required Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum three (3) years of experience in Catholic religious education, catechesis, CCD instruction, or parish-based faith formation. Experience coordinating sacramental preparation programs. Experience recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers.
Preferred:
Experience in a parish, diocesan, or military chapel setting. Certification Requirements Must hold AMS Religious Education Certification OR Must initiate and successfully complete AMS Religious Education Certification within the timeframe established after contract award. Must complete and maintain AMS Safe Environment Training certification. Certification must be maintained throughout the period of performance. Security & Compliance Requirements Must successfully complete required background investigations for working with children under age 18. Must maintain a Favorable Clearance in accordance with Air Force security regulations. Must comply with Department of the Air Force and Chaplain Corps standards of conduct and professionalism. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of Catholic doctrine and catechetical methodology. Ability to teach children and youth across developmental stages. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Ability to function effectively in a pluralistic military environment. Professional written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with standard office software and recordkeeping systems. Work Environment Services performed on-site at Los Angeles Air Force Base Chapel facilities. Work includes classroom instruction, youth activities, and administrative responsibilities. Requires professionalism, maturity, discretion, and the ability to maintain healthy working relationships with clergy, volunteers, families, and chapel staff.
