Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The Director of Evangelization and Catechesis provides leadership and coordination for parish evangelization and catechesis efforts, with a focus on middle school and high school youth, young adults, and adult faith formation. Oversees sacramental preparation for Confirmation (8th grade and high school) and the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA/OCIC). Collaborates with parish staff and volunteers to develop engaging programs, retreats, and formation opportunities that foster spiritual growth, discipleship, and active participation in parish life.POSITION CONTENT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintain an active prayer life and regular participation in the Sacraments Oversees and leads all parish Youth Ministry programming for middle school and high school students with the Assistant for Youth Ministry and OCIA Coordinates participation in the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC), including preparation and logistics Coordinates fundraising for youth events in collaboration with parish volunteers Directs the parish Confirmation program, including catechesis, service, and retreats (both school and parish religious education) Organizing the Confirmation Mass celebration at Ss. Francis & Clare of Assisi Facilitates Middle School and High School OCIC (Order of Christian Initiation of Children), collaborating as needed with the Coordinator of Children's Faith Formation Facilitates OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) program with coordination from Assistant for Youth Ministry and OCIA Organizes and collaborates with catechists providing catechesis for middle school and high school youth Organizes and directs the Living Stations of the Cross for 6th and 7th grade Religious Education students Maintains a ministry presence at Roncalli High School to support and engage parish youth Recruits, trains, and supports catechists and volunteers for youth and faith formation programs Participates in South Deanery Youth Ministers meetings for collaboration and professional development Develops and leads Young Adult ministry opportunities and activities Provides leadership and direction to the Evangelization and Catechesis team Assists with Children's Faith Formation programs as needed Attends parish staff meetings and contributes to overall parish planning and mission Prepares and manages the annual budget for evangelization and catechesis ministries Plans and leads Men's Retreats to foster spiritual growth within the parish community Collaborates with the Pastoral Associate to develop and implement Adult Faith Formation programming Supervise, support, and evaluate part-time staff and key volunteers, ensuring alignment with parish mission and ministry goals Recruit, onboard, train, and retain catechists and volunteers, including compliance with Archdiocesan child safety and Code of Conduct requirements Lead regular staff meetings and provide clear direction, feedback, and accountability for ministry responsibilities Represent the Archdiocese at national, regional, and local gatherings for youth ministry Communicate with other diocesan offices to fulfill the youth ministry office's mission and priorities Ensure the area of management operates in accordance with the policies set forth by Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi Parish and Archdiocese. This involves staying informed about and implementing policies related to professional processes, ethics, and organizational conduct Other duties as necessary to ensure efficient functioning of Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi and ArchdiocesePOSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR ABILITIES
Knowledge of Catholic Church teachings, particularly as they apply to youth and young adults Must be a professed and practicing Catholic Ability to work with middle school and high school youth and knowledge of developmentally appropriate needs Good organization and planning skills Ability to organize and manage workload to meet deadlines Ability to manage multiple employees in an effective manner Good interpersonal skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage relationships in an effective, professional manner Ability to effectively manage, motivate, and coach multiple employees and volunteers across varied ministry areas Strong interpersonal and communication skills to address performance, resolve conflict, and foster collaboration Ability to delegate responsibilities appropriately while maintaining oversight and accountability Self-motivated Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously Understands and adheres to the professional standards of conduct set forth by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis as well as any as outlined by professional degree/license, as applies Willingness to foster the Church's mission B•.EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Theology or a related field is preferred At least 2 years of paid or volunteer experience in youth ministry Prior education or formation that includes leadership, ministry administration, or organizational management Experience supervising staff or coordinating volunteers in a parish, school, or ministry setting Must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training Background screening required Ability to reliably travel to off-site locations on a regular basis, including travel of up to two hours from the office, using personal or alternative transportation.WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Frequent travel to parishes, schools, and for relationship-building meetings with youth ministry leaders May require evening and weekend work based on parish needs Provides own transportation and is reimbursed for travel according to the archdiocesan norms Must be able to maneuver equipment and ministry supplies through ministry settings, ensuring proper set-up for events The physical demands and work environment characteristics described above are representative of the physical capabilities and the working conditions involved in performing the essential functions of this position.
