SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE

DIRECTOR

OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION GENERAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to perform semi-routine and non-routine tasks in support the religious education of the parish.

REPORTING HIERARCHY

The incumbent in this position reports to the Pastor of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Directs the Religious Education program for the parish. Advertises and registers students and families. Recruits, confirms background checks, organizes, and provides formation for volunteers in the Religious Education program. Provides planning and assistance for Sacramental prep and records (Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Communion, Confirmation) and other liturgical events, such as Penance services and May Crowning. Provides or assists with Religious Instruction at the direction of the Pastor, including Baptism, 1st Reconciliation, 1st Communion (gathering day), Confirmation, and moral instruction (Theology of the Body) Provide regular opportunities for service hours at the parish for students. Practice with student lectors. Communicates and responds to diocesan offices, as needed.

Physical Ability :

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Sensory Requirements :

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Most tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
