Job Description

St. John's Unitarian Universalist Church, a beacon of liberal religious thought in Cincinnati since 1814, is looking for a Program Director for Children and Youth to rebuild our programs for children, youth and families. This person must be available most Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to about 12:30 p.m.; other work hours are flexible. The position will require 15 hours a week and will be paid at a starting rate of $21-$25 per hour. To apply, please submit a résumé to jobs@stjohnsuu.org.

Job Summary:
This position works in partnership with the congregation to organize and implement programs for children, youth, and families at St. John's Unitarian Universalist Church. The age range is from birth through high school. Average Sunday attendance is 12. The Program Director works under the supervision of the minister and collaboratively with the minister, staff, and volunteers. The Program Director ensures that the Safe Congregation policy and protocols are followed. The Program Director supervises childcare providers. All programs at St. John's assume we form in faith more fully when we integrate academic learning, hands-on service, and spiritual reflection. This head, hands, and heart model is used throughout the church. St. John's is seeking more multi-generational opportunities for faith formation. A significant part of this position will be rebuilding and reestablishing the program; this includes reaching out to families. Core competencies Dedication to the mission and purpose of St. John's. Commitment to Unitarian Universalist (UU) . Facilitating learning and community building. Ability to inspire, train, and supervise volunteers. A creative and flexible approach to meeting the needs of children and families. Clear, consistent communication with the congregation and staff. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Responsibilities Implementing and running a Spirit Play Program at St. John's. Plan special and intergenerational events (such as the gingerbread house). Work with the minister to plan intergenerational worship. Prepare an annual report and monthly updates for the congregation. Recruit, train, support, and supervise program volunteers and staff. Manage budget, resources, supplies, and equipment. Attend staff meetings and other meetings as needed. Ensure background checks are completed for all volunteers. Implement all policies related to children's programs. Other duties as assigned. Regular hours on Sunday morning. Join the Liberal Religious Educators Association (LREDA) at the congregation's expense to support your work. Qualifications Awareness of stages of faith development/child development. Ability to manage a budget. Ability to include anti-racism / anti-oppression in programming. Ability to speak in a public forum. Pass background check.
