Director for Community Life Hope Lutheran Church, Lake Stevens Role Overview The DCL is a strategic and relational leader responsible for fostering a culture of connection, inclusion, service, and spiritual growth for all ages. The primary mission of this role is to establish clear pathways for connections for those with questions. Secondarily, to welcome and engage those prepared to volunteer and discover possibilities for interaction. This role focuses on moving individuals from the "sidelines to the frontline" by recruiting, equipping, and training volunteer systems, supporting small groups, and helping lead faith formation ministries. The goal is to ensure every person at Hope Lutheran has a clear pathway to engage with the church in service and in relationships. Core Responsibilities 1. Volunteer Mobilization & Systems Develop a system to coordinate and motivate volunteer engagement across all church ministries. May directly create and lead ministry activities or partner with other staff members in areas where they share touch points (i.e Worship leaders on Worship teams and Tech teams). Create and maintain a "New Volunteer First Steps" process for those looking to meaningfully engage in the life of the church. Ensure those attending Sunday services are welcomed and become aware of opportunities where they may discover and share their gifts. Develop leadership and teacher pipelines to ensure volunteer teams are sustainable and well-supported. Allow those who are volunteering to discern changes in ministry, transitioning to other teams or taking a step back from service when they so choose. 2. Small Groups & Life Connections Oversee the health and growth of Bible studies, fellowship groups, and community-based groups. Recruit and support small group leaders. Equip small group leaders with resources, curriculum suggestions, and seasonal training. Provide coaching and support as needed for group leaders to be successful.
Connection Opportunities:
Plan thoughtful, multi-age events where Hope partners and friends build relationships. (Examples - Pi Day Run, Golf Day, Craft and Painting Day.) 3.
Faith Formation Team Nursery Team:
Recruit and schedule teens to provide childcare for Sunday morning worship and other special events as they arise. These teens can be tasked to support Kids Club lessons when able.
Kids Club:
Build a team of teachers who engage with our K-5th program on a weekly basis. Provide training and support for this team, helping them to see the impact they are making on this important community.
Youth:
6th-12th Grades - Support and encourage attendance at monthly Sky Events.
Recruitment:
Ensure all classrooms are safely staffed with background-checked volunteers. Serve as substitute teacher for Nursery or Kids Club when needed.
Curriculum:
Help lead the selection of gospel-centered, age-appropriate curriculum.
Special Events:
Coordinate 1 monthly "bridge event" designed for families and kids.
Position Details Status:
Part-Time (W-2 Employee), 25-30 hours per week.
Compensation:
$42,000-50,000 annual salary (No benefits).
DOE Location:
Works primarily at Hope Lutheran Church with flexibility to work some hours remotely.
Schedule Breakdown:
Sunday (6 hours): On-site oversight of Kids Programs and volunteer teams. Monday (6 hours): On-site staff meetings, reporting, and administration. Wednesday (6 hours): On-site mid-week programming or office hours. Flexible (7+ hours): Remote or on-site work for curriculum planning, volunteer phone calls, and prep. Organized and Dependable:
Able to manage schedules, communication, volunteer coordination, background checks, and ministry details with consistency and care. (Our current programs are Proclaim, Planning Center, and Checkr.)
Relational and Welcoming:
Comfortable building relationships across generations, backgrounds, and life experiences, and able to help people feel seen, valued, and connected. Comfortable with
Everyday Technology:
Familiar with common office and communication tools such as word processing, online scheduling systems, email, and basic graphic or presentation tools, with a willingness to learn new systems as needed.
Physically Capable of Routine Ministry Tasks:
Able to comfortably lift and carry up to 25 pounds as part of normal ministry activities. Aligned with the
