Catholic Religious Education Coordinator (CREC)

The Catholic Religious Education Coordinator (CREC) provides leadership, coordination, and administration of a comprehensive Catholic Religious Education Program serving children, youth, and adults at Shaw Air Force Base. Working closely with the Catholic Chaplain, the Coordinator oversees sacramental preparation, catechist development, religious education programming, and seasonal faith formation activities that support the spiritual growth of the Catholic community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Catholic Religious Education Coordinator will: Religious Education Program Management Plan, coordinate, and administer Catholic religious education programs for preschool, youth, and adult participants Develop and maintain the annual Religious Education calendar and program schedule Coordinate sacramental preparation programs, including First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, and
RCIA/OCIA
Organize seasonal religious education activities, retreats, and special faith formation events Catechist & Volunteer Leadership Recruit, train, and support volunteer catechists and program assistants Ensure catechists meet Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) certification and training requirements Coordinate parent, teacher, and catechist training opportunities Program Administration Maintain attendance records, sacramental documentation, and program files Develop publicity materials, calendars, and communications for program participants Track curriculum, supplies, and budget needs and coordinate requests with chapel staff Conduct program assessments and recommend improvements to enhance effectiveness Community & Chapel Support Coordinate with the Catholic Chaplain and chapel staff on program planning and implementation Support parish events, seasonal observances, and Catholic community activities Ensure all curriculum and instructional materials conform to Catholic doctrine and AMS requirements Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Religious Education, Theology, Ministry, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Director of Religious Education, Religious Education Coordinator, catechetical leader, or similar role in a Catholic parish or chapel setting Active, practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church Must provide a pastoral or priest reference verifying good standing within the Catholic Church Knowledge of Catholic doctrine, sacramental preparation, and catechetical ministry Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Ability to work independently and effectively with clergy, volunteers, parents, and youth Preferred Qualifications AMS Catechist Certification or ability to obtain certification in accordance with AMS requirements Experience supporting military chapel programs or military families Familiarity with Archdiocese for the Military Services policies and procedures Experience coordinating volunteer-based ministry programs Work Schedule Part-time position (up to 20 hours per week) Schedule determined in coordination with the Catholic Chaplain Sunday Religious Education support required during the academic year Occasional evenings, weekends, retreats, training events, and special programs required Work Environment Work performed at Shaw Air Force Base chapel facilities and approved religious education locations Office, classroom, chapel, and event-based environment Regular interaction with military personnel, families, children, volunteers, and clergy Security & Requirements Must successfully complete all required background investigations and installation access requirements Must meet all child protection requirements and maintain favorable background screening status Must comply with Air Force, installation, and chapel policies and procedures Must be eligible to obtain and maintain Common Access Card (CAC) credentials as required Professional Standards The Coordinator must: Maintain professional conduct and appearance at all times Uphold Catholic teachings and values in all aspects of program delivery Demonstrate respect for military culture and a pluralistic chapel environment Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions
