Position Effective:
Immediately Overview The Islamic Center of Irving (ICI) is looking for a part-time Youth Coordinator , for our youth brothers ICI hosts a diverse community from all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. The center is also frequented by a large group of Huffadh & Hafidhaat, numbering over 300. Furthermore, the Islamic School of Irving (ISI) is attended by nearly 900 students daily, from PreK through 12th grade, under the same roof as ICI. As one of the most populated and diverse Muslim communities in America, it is crucial for the youth of this center to have correct role models/mentors to provide channels and initiatives to support and nurture them as they experience young adulthood. Candidates must support ICI's vision and mission statements as mentioned in the ICI Constitution. The Youth Coordinators will be under the immediate supervision of the ICI Youth Liaison as well as the Imam for religious oversight, and will work alongside the ICI Youth Committee (ICY; already established and running). Education/Experience
  • Should have a basic understanding of Shari'ah
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent traditional Islamic education (may consider candidates who are still studying or hope to study in the near future)
  • Around 3-5 years of experience managing and coordinating youth (brothers & sisters), parents, and community leaders
  • Experience with some level of community building/development
Brothers' YC Responsibilities:
The Brothers' Youth Coordinator is expected to develop and maintain classes/programs focused mainly on middle school and high school.
  • Serve as a role model for the youth committee and all youth
  • Efficiently collaborate and cooperate with the ICY Committee and sisters' YC
  • Establish annual goals, objectives, and plans to implement youth strategies and present these periodically as Impact Reports
  • Plan and oversee youth activities and programs that balance social, religious, spiritual, and personal character development and experiential learning (meetings, Halaqahs, Khatirahs, discussions, overnights, retreats, camps, sporting activities, etc.)
  • Lead at minimum: ○ 1 weekly Halaqah ○ 1 consistent weekly class/course ○ 1 monthly program/retreat/camp (Scope may be adjusted based on part-time capacity)
  • Spend consistent time engaging with youth personally and building meaningful relationships (Suhbah)
  • Establish a friendly rapport with youth through engaging and beneficial activities
  • Report regularly to the Youth Liaison and Imam regarding program performance and youth development
  • Maintain communication with youth, parents, and community leaders
  • Assist in preparing and managing an annual youth budget
  • Recruit, manage, and engage youth volunteers
  • Create and maintain a youth handbook in collaboration with the ICY Committee
  • Maintain documentation (event registrations, permission slips, attendance logs, health forms, safety guidelines, etc.)
  • Build relationships with YM (Young Muslims), MSAs, neighboring masājid, and community organizations
  • Deliver approximately 1-2 Khatirahs per week
  • Deliver Khutbahs occasionally (as needed and based on availability)
  • May be requested to lead Salah occasionally (YC must be Hafidh for this task)
