The Liturgy is the source and summit of the life of the Church. The cathedral church has a particular responsibility to celebrate well the official prayers and rites which make up the liturgy. Cathedrals also have as part of their pastoral responsibility the preservation and furtherance of the church's treasury of sacred music. To that end, the Liturgy and Music department of the Cathedral of the Madeleine serves the church of Utah by cultivating, administering, and developing the liturgical life of the cathedral church and the arts that support and enhance its life of worship. This work includes the Celebration of the Mass, the Divine Office, and the Sacraments and their requisite planning, promotion, ministerial preparation, and execution. It also includes the Cathedral Choir, the Madeleine Choir School, The Madeleine Organ Institute, Cathedral Concert Series, the Eccles Organ Festival, and collaboration with the Madeleine Festival of the Arts and Humanities.
Responsibilities:
General
  • Reviews and acts upon the monthly task list as assigned by the Director of Music and Liturgy.
  • Purchase and maintenance of all liturgical supplies, including vestments, candles, and sacristy supplies.
  • Processes all outside applications for events in the Cathedral, including coordinating with Diocesan Office of Worship for Diocesan events.
  • Processes and shares with pertinent staff the Liturgical and Musical Planning Instrument used for all outside groups worshipping in the Cathedral.
  • Maintains, updates, and distributes checklists for all major Diocesan and Cathedral liturgies.
  • Preparation of Presider's Books, and as needed, a Lector's Resource for the liturgies of the Cathedral.
  • Assists the Music Administrator with the copying and folding of Worship Leaflets/Music Bulletins. Liturgical Ministers and Sextons/Sacristans
  • Oversees the scheduling for Altar Assistants, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Sacristans, and, together with the Masters of Ceremony.
  • Coordinates and schedules sacristans/sextons for concerts, religious education, and civic events, as well as other evening activities in the Cathedral.
  • Supervise the full-time and part-time sextons for all liturgies and events of the Cathedral.
  • Facilitates the training of all liturgical ministers.
  • Schedules liturgical ministers for Diocesan Events.
  • Coordinate, train, schedule, and supervise ushers for all liturgies and events of the Cathedral.
  • Coordinate, train, schedule, and supervise the STA students regarding their participation in the liturgies of the Cathedral. Weddings, Quinceañeras, Funerals, and Baptisms
  • Maintain the liturgical library of past services, and worship aids for Funerals, Weddings, and Quinceañeras .
  • After the initial contact with the Priest/Deacon and Director of Liturgy, coordinate communication with family and/or funeral home for Funerals, including obtaining readings, scheduling ministers, and a Sacristan/MC.
  • Together with the Clergy, schedule and prepare for Baptisms.
  • Coordinates and schedules Sacristan/Servers, Readings, and Music for all Weddings and Quinceañeras
Required Education and Skills:
  • The qualified candidate is Roman Catholic in good standing. The person has a willingness and ability to work a varied schedule, has a professional appearance, and good public relations skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and excels at coordinating complex schedules, events, volunteers, and logistics. Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, adapt to changing circumstances, and ensure that details are executed accurately and on time.
  • Strong administrative, project management, interpersonal, and supervisory skills are required. Experience with event management, scheduling, training, and volunteer management is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and calendar management tools is required. Experience with InDesign is preferred.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Catholic Church ethics, traditions, procedures, and organizational structures.
  • Spanish fluency is preferred but not required.
Pay:
$34,000.00 - $44,000.00 per year
