MAJOR PURPOSE
The Veterans Success and Engagement Coach serves as the primary student support, engagement, and enrollment liaison for military-connected students at Jessup University, including veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, spouses, and dependents. This position supports military-affiliated students from inquiry through graduation by providing proactive coaching, onboarding support, resource navigation, retention outreach, and community-building initiatives (including Veterans Resource Center campus events). The Veteran's Success and Engagement Coach helps students navigate university systems, academic expectations, benefits-related processes, campus resources, and personal or transitional challenges that may impact persistence and success. In alignment with the University's Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding (DoD MOU), this position also supports enrollment growth by developing relationships with community college Veterans Centers, military installations, education offices, veteran-serving organizations, and other external partners. Through student-centered support, data-informed follow-up, and strategic outreach, the Success and Outreach Coach strengthens both military-affiliated student enrollment and persistence. The Veteran's Success and Engagement Coach supports military-affiliated students through proactive coaching, retention outreach, enrollment follow-up, resource navigation, and referral coordination. This position does not provide clinical counseling or therapeutic services and does not serve as the School Certifying Official unless separately designated by the University. Primary responsibility for VA certification, benefits compliance, audits, and related certification decisions remains with the School Certifying Official and appropriate institutional offices. This position is full-time, primarily in person and on campus, with regular local travel for outreach, recruiting, and community engagement activities with supervisor approval. The pay range for this position is generally $50,000-$60,000. Individual pay is generally determined by a number of factors including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training and location.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Student Success and Retention Support
- Serves as the primary success coach and support liaison for military-affiliated students.
- Provides proactive one-on-one coaching focused on transition support, academic planning, persistence, retention, graduation, and career readiness.
- Assists students in navigating university systems, registration processes, academic policies, campus resources, and student support services.
- Conducts outreach to students experiencing academic difficulty, attendance concerns, financial challenges, personal barriers, or disengagement.
- Supports students in developing individualized academic and personal success plans.
- Refers students to appropriate campus and community resources as needed.
- Maintains accurate case notes, intervention records, communication logs, and student engagement documentation in the University's CRM, student information system, or designated case management platform. Benefits Navigation and Campus Coordination
- Collaborates with the School Certifying Official, Student Financial Services, Registrar, Academic Advising, and other offices to support timely resolution of student questions related to VA educational benefits, military tuition assistance, enrollment changes, and required documentation.
- Maintains working knowledge of military-affiliated student processes and institutional policies in order to guide students appropriately and refer compliance-related matters to the SCO or appropriate departments.
- Assists students in understanding general processes related to educational benefits, including GI Bill benefits, Yellow Ribbon, VR&E, DEA/Chapter 35, Tuition Assistance, and related military-connected education resources.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential records in compliance with FERPA and university policies. Enrollment Outreach and Partnership Development
- Develops and maintains partnerships with community college Veterans Centers, military education offices, veteran-serving organizations, and other community partners.
- Conducts outreach and recruitment activities to increase awareness of Jessup University's educational opportunities for military-affiliated students.
- Represents the University at military education fairs, veteran events, transfer events, and other approved recruitment opportunities.
- Supports prospective military-affiliated students through inquiry, admissions, enrollment, onboarding, and transition into the University.
- Collaborates with Admissions and Marketing on military-affiliated student communication strategies, outreach campaigns, events, and enrollment follow-up.
- Uses the University's CRM to track prospective student outreach, partnership activity, enrollment follow-up, communication history, and next steps for military-affiliated student pipelines. Programming, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
- Assists in coordinating workshops, engagement opportunities, recognition events, transition programming, and community-building initiatives.
- Monitors trends related to student persistence, engagement, academic risk indicators, benefits-related barriers, and enrollment pipeline progression.
- Prepares regular updates regarding military-affiliated student enrollment, retention, outreach, partnership development, and student engagement.
- Identifies barriers impacting military-affiliated student success and recommend process improvements.
- Participates in case management, enrollment, retention, and student success meetings as appropriate.
- Uses CRM and student information system data to monitor outreach activity, student engagement, enrollment progression, retention trends, and intervention outcomes. Mission Integration

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree preferred in higher education, student affairs, counseling, social work, psychology, education, leadership, military/veteran services, or a related field. Experience/Knowledge
- Experience in higher education, enrollment management, student success, advising, military services, veteran services, adult learner support, or a related field.
- Preferred military background, working with veterans, military-connected populations, military communities, adult learners, transfer students, or other nontraditional student populations strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with VA educational benefits, military tuition assistance, and military-affiliated student processes preferred.
- Understanding of the transition, academic, financial, personal, and institutional navigation needs of military-affiliated students.
- Knowledge of student success practices, retention strategies, academic recovery, proactive advising, and student development.
- Experience using CRM systems, student information systems, case management tools, or student success platforms to document outreach, manage follow-up, track student progress, and support reporting.
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn, military culture and the needs of veteran, active-duty, reservist, National Guard, spouse, and dependent student populations. Skills/Abilities
