Job Description

As a member of the Office of Admissions recruitment team, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for meeting or exceeding the freshman recruitment goal for an assigned geographical territory. The incumbent will articulate the mission and values of the College to prospective students and families, and become thoroughly familiar with academic majors, campus activities, and all other aspects of student life at Florida Southern College that impact the recruitment of new students to the campus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Represent the College at college fairs, high school visits, student/parent receptions, and other events as needed. 2. Develop and maintain relationships with guidance counselors at designated high schools within territory. 3. Provide admission counseling to prospective students and their parents through all phases of the admissions and financial aid processes. 4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date student prospect database. 5. Conduct interviews and presentations with prospective students and their families. 6. Conduct initial application readings and admissions file review. 7. In addition to recruitment and territory management responsibilities, the Admissions Counselor will also represent the Office of Admissions at all on campus recruitment events, including but not limited to, open house events, scholars weekends, preview days, accepted student days, and registration and orientation events. 8. Contributes to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree. 2. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to clear a driver history check with a clean record. 3. Ability to articulate the mission of the College and the value of a liberal arts education. 4. Ability to establish priorities, set deadlines, and meet goals. 5. Ability to travel and work evening and weekend hours as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS 1.
Light Physical Activity :
The job generally involves minimal physical strain—mostly sitting, standing, and walking. 2.
Lifting Requirements :
Occasionally, counselors may need to lift or move materials like brochures or display items, typically under 25 pounds. 3.
Extended Hours :
During busy periods, long hours and extended screen time can be expected, which may require good time management and stamina. 4. Must be able to operate a vehicle for frequent travel using incumbent's own vehicle.

Office-Based Work :
Much of the time is spent in an office setting, handling applications, communicating with students, and coordinating events. 3.
Travel Requirements :
Counselors often travel to high schools, college fairs, and recruitment events—sometimes out of state—to meet prospective students. 4.
Irregular Hours :
Expect occasional evening and weekend work, especially during peak recruitment seasons or when hosting campus events. 5.
Indoor/Outdoor Mix:
While most work is indoors, some events may require being outside, such as open houses or school visits. 6. Assignment is campus-based and not intended for remote work.
