Job Description:
General Statement of Duties The Staff Assistant-Admissions Counselor at Massachusetts College of Art & Design participates in recruiting new undergraduate students to MassArt. This activity includes high school visits and representing MassArt at a variety of college night programs, college fairs, portfolio days, and other external events. Admissions Counselors represent all aspects of the college and its programs and policies when speaking to prospective students and families.

$56,000.00 - $58,000.00, commensurate with experience

Essential Duties:
Serves as primary contact for prospective students and applicants. Provides portfolio reviews, interviews, and outreach to assigned areas. Documents contacts and provides follow-up as needed. Schedules and conducts general information sessions and classroom presentations at high schools for prospective applicants and families, teachers, and counselors, in groups or individually. Attends college fairs, portfolio days, and recruitment events as directed. Extensive travel throughout the fall months, with additional travel throughout the year. Maintains daily communication with the office during all recruitment trips. Meets with individual prospects and applicants, by appointment or walk-in. Answers questions in writing, on the phone, or by email. Assist with the day-to-day needs of the office by entering and updating applicant data, filing, receiving phone calls, maintaining contact with applicants, assisting with mail campaigns, and providing campus tours. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with art educators and professionals. Actively participates in staff meetings, training programs, and on-campus events. Provides general information about college programs in a very high-volume environment. Evaluates credentials submitted by Foundation and Transfer applicants to the college. Recommends admissions decisions and participates in decisions made by the undergraduate admissions committee. Also evaluates transfer credits for admitted applicants. Provides comprehensive schedule of recruitment activities and events including detailed travel itinerary and budget information. Provides updates and revisions as needed. Submits weekly travel and expense, high school visit, and event reports. Performs other related duties or special projects as assigned. Participates in college committees when assigned by the President, Dean, or other college official. Serves as Admissions liaison to other college offices, including but not limited to Alumni Relations and Youth Programs. Serves on College Governance Committees. Performs other processes and tasks as required by the Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management and the Director of Undergraduate Admissions. Performs other related duties or special projects as assigned. Participates in college committees when assigned by the President, Dean, or other college official.
Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Bachelor's degree with a solid background in visual arts. Visual/studio literacy, must be able to evaluate and critique portfolios, and to knowledgeably discuss the college's programs and art education in general. A commitment to the principles of art and design in higher education Excellent oral and written communication skills. Well-developed interpersonal skills and attitudes. Able to communicate with a wide spectrum of individuals Strong organizational and time management skills High energy level. Must be able to work long hours, nights, and weekends as required to meet the admissions goals of the college during peak periods Ability, interest, and willingness to travel extensively. A valid driver's license and passport are required. Ability to respond well to pressure, adaptable to change Must be able to lift and transport 20-25 lbs of materials over short distances, i.e., cartons of admissions materials Computer skills, including word processing and database usage Please note that this role requires frequent night and weekend shifts during peak recruitment periods in the Fall and Spring. This role is primarily based on campus when not on the road.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
BFA is strongly preferred Experience with databases such as Slate, Colleague, and creative software such as Adobe Suites, Microsoft Office Suite, Keynote, and other computer operations preferred Experience working in a higher education setting
